Why We Love This Hotel

  • Appleby Manor offers "glorious" views over the Eden Valley. "The substantial red sandstone building, with its tall gables and mullioned windows, is all you'd expect of a prosperous Victorian home" (The Daily Telegraph) with conservatories, a bedroom wing, and a "lovely" spa added
  • The hotel holds four AA Silver Stars, which are awarded for superior levels of quality and service, and its restaurant has two AA Rosettes
  • The Garden Spa offers treatments including the Aqua Thermal Journey, which is available at a reduced rate as part of this deal. It comprises several different heat experiences and access to the hydrotherapy pool with underwater loungers and water jets
  • The Lakes Distillery is close to Bassenthwaite Lake in the Lake District and is approximately an hours' drive from the hotel. Guided tours give behind-the-scenes access and an insight to the distillery's whisky, gin, and vodka production, along with a tasting session. Tickets are included in this deal but must be pre-booked: 48 hours after making your hotel booking, contact Appleby Manor directly on 017683 51571 with your Travelzoo reference number. They will then be able to provide a code and assist with your distillery tour reservation

Overview

Appleby Manor Country House Hotel & Garden Spa is a family-run, 4-star property just outside the Cumbrian market town of Appleby-in-Westmorland. This Victorian mansion has well-tended gardens with far-reaching views over the Eden Valley. It’s also in a great location for hiking holidays, sandwiched between the Lake District fells, the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Classic Rooms are split between the manor house and coach house annex, which is a 10m walk across a courtyard from the main building. Deluxe Rooms are located either on the first floor of the manor house or the garden wing. Rooms in the main house are more traditional in style and vary in size and shape, having been adapted from the original building's layout. Rooms in the coach house and garden wing are more contemporary, with the deluxe category offering views over the putting green, gardens, or fells beyond.

The property holds four AA silver stars for superior levels of quality and service, and its fine-dining restaurant has two AA Rosettes for culinary excellence. There is also the 1871 Bistro, named after the year the Victorian manor house was built. With French doors leading out onto the gardens and patio, the Bistro's atmosphere is more relaxed and informal. Both restaurants and their menus put an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients and seasonal produce.

The hotel's spa features a sheltered garden with a fire pit and furniture, and a private-hire hot tub (additional fees apply). The thermal area has a salt-inhalation room, a steam room, a sauna, and a rain sky experience shower. There is also a hydrotherapy pool and treatment rooms.

Appleby railway station is a 15-minute walk from the hotel.

Staff friendly and helpful, had to upgrade to deluxe room which similar to the standard room but extra £40 per room per day which was a extra cost not accounted for. Menu's could do with more options on it. same every day.

Health Spa very good value for the money but the full body massage was very expensive for the treatment given. I think the price needs to be reviewed.

Lovely break away for some much needed rest and recuperation. Lovely clean rooms, lovely evening meal and a great breakfast. The spa was fabulous and quite due to limiting the number of people at any one time. I would recommend Appleby Manor Hotel and Spa
