No problems at all, everything was very well organised. Food was excellent. Had an evening meal, and breakfast. Staff were helpful and friendly. Our room was bigger than most we have had so very good. The radiator we could control on our own so all good, and the water was very hot for the shower.

A very good hotel, a lot of plus points in their favour. Didn't use the spa or gym, and unfortunately the swimming pool wasn't open yet, but that didn't spoil anything.

The cleanliness of the room, there was dirty slashes on the bedroom above the waste bin.
The walls were very thin and could hear people talking very clearly. We was woke up by the talking next door at 1am. It took along time to be able to go back to sleep. At 4am the fire alarm started sounding then again at 8am with no apology at all.

The hotel reception and lounge area was lovely, the room was spacious. The staff who were there were pleasant and helpful but there were far too few of them. Consequently we didn’t receive any food until 9.30/9.45 despite being seated by 7.45pm. We were meeting up with family so enjoyed our stay anyway. Breakfast choices were more than enough but again manned by one member of staff.

No Spa or sauna or pool. We were looking for relaxing time but shower in sauna was cold. from party downstairs, next door & I think boiler near our room.
The hydrotherapy was not there & said will be ready by 1st December and it was like a building site.
The receptionist said we should have booked the meal on line but did not say on your site, also said will ring us about 30 mins about time of the meal as it was very busy. We waited then came down after an hour to ask & told us to go to the restaurant to book the time. We got there & sane said busy & managed to book us for 7:30pm & we got there hardly nobody just 4 couples.

When we arrived the reception asked what time we wanted to dine and gave us a voucher with the time written on it. Later when we went to the restaurant they had no knowledge of our and several other peoples bookings. The young man waiting on in the restaurant finally found everyone a table and we got our wine and food after about half an hours delayThis young man dealt with evarything very well considering the initial chaos.
Other Comments
The reception took a refundable £50 charge on my card, therefore I was surprised that I was unable to charge drinks to our room and had to pay for the bottle of wine at our table and each round in the bar separately. The after dinner expresso coffee in the bar was served in a large paper cup!

This hotel really needs to up its game. Looking on Trip Advisor the same points keep on coming up.
Things were very disorganised. The lift was temperamental. Some of the staff (not all) should not be in hospitality. I object to having £50 taken off my credit card as insurance. Most places just ask for details not take money off. A disappointing Travelzoo.

Booking and payment made through Travelzoo for a Suite Room. On arrival we were given a Superior Double Room and told that Travelzoo had not requested a suite although we were charged for it. The room we were given was OK, The food in the restaurant was excellent and the night was extremely good value for money.

Positives are:- There is currently a 20% discount for residents on alcohol purchased from the bar. Also the lake is a lovely place to sit and relax when the weather allows. Breakfast choice is good, but quite cool. Check out time is 11am not 10am as expected.
Just a couple of negatives:- Being asked for a £50.00 deposit in case of damages to rooms this is paid by card upon check in. There are no glasses provided in the bathroom.

Enjoyed our over night stay. Our expectations were managed as we were on a Travelzoo reduced rate and knowing that not all facilities were going to be available. It was quite quiet but I imagine the ambience would be much better when it’s busier. Everywhere is nicely decorated except on the way to the spa and pool, which needs investing in. Staff really helpful albeit that it felt that it was being run on skeleton staff in the restaurant and bar. Again, I expect that was because it wasn’t very busy. Food ok, we were on the inclusive menu so value for money but much more choice on the main menu. I look forward to visiting again once all the new facilities are available and the hotel is busier.

Upon arrival, not much of a greeting and welcome. I had to ask where things were. Got the order at the bar wrong but lady rectified it. Then no one spoke or acknowledged us. I had to ask where the restaurant was then wasn't told the Spa wasn't opened justchanded a piece of paper. Room very basic, bed so small, I wiped marks of the bathroom walls and dust in corners. Then our evening meal starter was lovely, then we ordered sirloin steak 1 rare, and 1 medium, they both cam well done and dry. The young man took them back and apologised and re-ordered them, fir them to come again well done. I ate mine in the end as I hadn't eaten since morning that day and I am diabetic but my husband left his.
Corridor and doors to room are very dated and smelled a little fusty. Breakfast had a good variety but not hot at all, and staff just didn't interact with customers. The nicest lady was on ghe desk when I was checking out.
I asked if there was anything or anywhere in the area to go I was told no it's pretty boring around here unless you go to 2 other places 1 being Preston.

Strong smell of damp coming from lift shaft.
No heat in the restaurant - quite cold
NO superking beds as per booking
View from the bedroom was the worst we've ever had, we have photos
Fan in the bathroom ran ALL the time
Mattress in room 117 old and too soft, husband fell out of bed because there was no support in the mattress.
We changed rooms and in this room the toilet roll holder falling off the wall
First morning breakfast was poorly prepared and had been sat in the trays too long
Our biggest complaint was the bed size, the hotel had no superking beds which is what we had paid for.

Friendly staff in all areas, lovely decoration throughout with a chilled ambience. Excellent food in the restaurant but very busy and some staff unsure what to do so everyone kept going to a lad that looked like he run the restaurant but he was also busy but always had a smile on his face. Some people had problems with checking in but luckily we only waited 10 mins but others warned hours. Swimming pool and fitness area Closed for refurbishment but we knew this before arriving so not a problem. Overall a good hotel stay on the deal at a good price.

The hotel is newly refurbished, the standard double rooms are lovely, king size bed, 2 seater setee and an up to date tv. The shower room is a bit 'tight' but just about works, large walk-in shower, all newly tiled etc., so very nice. The staff were very accommodating and helpful. We enjoyed the food and service at both dinner and breakfast. A very enjoyable, relaxing overnight stay.
We weren't told meal timings and wifi details a check-in and these weren't available in the rooms - this info could be more readily available.
If you have limited mobilty it's worth knowing that there are nine steps from the foyer up to the bar and restaurant area, there is a wheelchair lift available. There are also steps down to the breakfast self service area and up again to the breakfast seating area.
Other Comments
There's a small lake next to the hotel that you can walk around. On the far side of the lake you walk through some woodland on an old disused road.
Yarrow Valley Country Park is nearby and has pleasant walks around lakes.
The National Trust Rufford Old Hall is a short drive away (if you drive using Google Maps - when you're nearly there, believe the brown, heritage, road signs over what the app tells you).

A work in progress where the reception, bar, restaurant, and public areas have been renovated to a very high standard, and the grounds, chalets, spa, and pool are currently being renovated. Everything in our room was brand new, with a completely new ensuite with walk-in shower. The reception and Mallard Bar is stunning and resembles the atrium of a cruise ship.
Other Comments
Some reviews have been critical of minor irritations surrounding the ongoing renovation work, but they fail to mention that this is reflected in the very attractive deals currently on offer on sites such as Travelzoo and Groupon. Exceptional value for the English School holidays.

The building which was smart enough felt and was ,chilly ,and wind came through a gap in outer doors to the rear of the building. There is much rebuilding work to be done with buildings surrounding the property in a state of decay. Once this vast area is updated the hotel will be much more inviting. A very large skip of rubbish below my bedroom window was not ideal. But needs must ,for the time being . The staff in reception and the dining room were very helpful .

The hotel’s service is terribly understaffed and last night the meal service was one of the worst ever and so many people were complaining too
A couple told us at breakfast that someone let themselves into their room earlier this morning a worker who had been given the same room this really shook them up as they were elderly
The lift isn’t working we knew that but it’s not good that they are expecting older guests to carry their bags upstairs no offer to help
Spa facilities may of helped but if they can’t get the basics right then I can’t imagine how it will be when there are more services to manage
There was no information in the room no telephone or way to contact reception no fridge or water and this was supposed to be the platinum suite
The plates were cold for breakfast and we had to wait as they didn’t have us down for breakfast so they had to check at reception.. there are so many unsatisfactory things here ., get one of your team to do a mystery shop !!
I am not a complainer by nature and understand staff have to be paid a decent wage etc but this was a surprise for my husband and we traveled 3 hours to get here and I feel embarrassed I booked this as a surprise
I do look forward to hearing back from yo I feel I should be refunded for this let down
I am just sat in the room and can even hear people complaining as they walk past our room about the poor breakfast apparently yesterday there wasn’t even a hot option
Workers who have accommodations paid for by their employers who paid last night we’re laughing and said they are glad they didn’t have to pay and one man was so upset he left to get a meal elsewhere
I did mention it to the very lovely receptionist this morning but it was the wrong environment to talk as there was a gentleman using the phone at the desk so I said I would email
Oh and there was no draught beer as we were told there was a flood in the cellau

Had a very good experience, we had evening meal and breakfast. Both were very nice especially evening meal. Good choice at breakfast as well, traditional English breakfast plus cereals and fruit. Tea and coffee also. Only had one member of staff who couldn’t be bothered to go and look for alternative milk when wanting a coffee from the Starbucks in the hotel on the morning off leaving which was a bit disappointing as the night before a different member of staff went and got us the alternative milk when it wasn’t in the fridge so we knew that the other member of staff just couldn’t be bothered walking to storage cupboard. Aside from that good experience
