Why We Love This Hotel

  • The hotel is named after William Cecil, who was adviser to Queen Elizabeth I. It's set within the Burghley Estate, the Cecil family's ancestral home.
  • Milly's is the hotel's bistro restaurant. It has a weekly-changing menu and daily blackboard specials.  There's also an outdoor terrace for al fresco drinks.
  • You might recognise 16th-century Burghley House from scenes in "Pride & Prejudice" and "The Crown". Built to display William Cecil's wealth and power, it contains priceless works of art.
  • The estate also has extensive grounds and enchanting gardens. The parkland was laid out by Capability Brown.
  • Stamford was proclaimed by 18th-century Scottish author Sir Walter Scott the "finest stone town in England". This holds true to this day. The Times lists Stamford's high street as one of the loveliest in the UK
  • Rutland Water is less than 15 minutes' away by car.

Hotel was lovely. Outside area was particularly good - rattan furniture, horse box bar and keyboard player entertained with gentle music on the Sunday. Staff were all friendly and helpful.
