Why We Love This Hotel

  • The Daily Telegraph praises the "welcoming staff", "top-notch facilities" and "show-stopping grandeur" of the hotel
  • This deluxe family-friendly hotel has a 12-metre indoor pool, a spa and a hot tub with uninterrupted sea views
  • Fowey Hall is said to have been the inspiration for Toad Hall in The Wind in the Willows

Commanding sweeping views of Fowey's river estuary and harbour, this deluxe family-friendly hotel on the Cornish coast was reputedly the inspiration for Toad Hall in The Wind in the Willows.

Facilities at Fowey Hall include a 12-metre indoor heated swimming pool, an outdoor hot tub and a spa offering a range of pampering treatments. You can wander through the gardens and take in the sea views, or head to one of the nearby beaches for a stroll. There are excellent services for families at this hotel, including a crèche (£16 for two hours), a games room and a DVD library.

The restaurant serves hearty Cornish fare made using seasonal, local ingredients, so expect a menu filled with fresh seafood. The breakfast spread includes a buffet of cereals, yoghurts, fresh fruit, pastries and muffins. While there is no bar, the Snug proves a lovely spot for an aperitif.

Standard Double Rooms are in the main house: they are classic in style and ideal for couples. The 12 rooms in the Garden Wing are connected to the main house and all have garden and estuary views. Rooms in the courtyard are a minute's walk from the main house. Dogs are allowed in some rooms for £15 a night -- let the hotel know in advance if you plan on bringing your pet.

We have also negotiated a spa day with cream tea for £49 per person, saving 47% on the regular rates.

On the whole very satisfied. We had an offer which was good but were put in the courtyard accommodation. It was a delux room except it was not. The furnishings were old(not antique) not in good order other than the bed. The woodwork was scruffy and corners etc to windows holding dirt and ill fitting.Bathroom curtains where present were worn and torn. The courtyard was just a square of single storey buildings used for various purposes. The hotel was not full so it looked as if we had been shoved out of the way.

We would stress that the hotel, food and service in the main hotel was excellent.

Better than expected, the menu seemed a bit ambitious and didn’t quite live up to expectations. Will take my child next time .

Rooms are great and there is an emphasis on being child friendly which looks impressive. The pool was nice and outdoor hot tub. Staff very friendly, location good.

A beautiful location and place to stay. Very attentive and helpful staff. Food was excellent all round. Hotel has a magnificent period dining room but staff advise that changes and alterations are imminently planned. Hopefully they will not lose this lovely period dining area as we found it quite enchanting.

From the moment we arrived we were made very welcome from the lovely staff. The room was beyond our expectations, exceptionally clean and spacious. The bed was so comfortable and the views were fantastic. The waiting staff were friendly, relaxed and very helpful. The icing on the cake was the exceptional food. Cooked breakfast was perfect and the evening menu was varied and incredibly tasteful. We had a fantastic stay and will return. Thank you to all the staff.
