Why We Love This Hotel
- The estate is built around an impressive Victorian Gothic mansion house. It retains many period features including grand staircases, internal balconies, and mullioned windows, but has been sympathetically modernised inside.
- Bedrooms are "spaces of beauty on par with the stunning surroundings", says The Daily Telegraph, with tartan fabrics and artworks of woodland scenes to bring the outside and inside together.
- Dining options include the 1853 Restaurant & Library Bar, which features oak panelling, ornate archways, and a grand fireplace with garden views, and the Atrium Bar. This light-filled space with a 60-foot-high glass roof and lots of indoor greenery serves a menu of comfort-food classics and a large selection of cocktails and wines.
- As well as the large grounds to explore, there's also a gym and an indoor pool where you can keep active during your stay.
- Bristol is around 25 minutes' drive away, while Wotton-under-Edge, a market town on the fringes of the Cotswolds, is 15 minutes by car.
- The Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has a wealth of walking and cycling trails, as well as pretty villages to visit such as Castle Combe, which you can reach in around 35 minutes.
