"Came here for a birthday night away and was immediately taken aback with the ambience of Wroxall Abbey. Stunning location set in 27 acres of beautiful scenic land, we were also taken for a tour of the 900Yr (ish) Chapel by the Abbey owner who was very knowledgable and forthcoming with the history of Wroxall Abbey in its entirety. We opted for the dining experience and was not disappointed, food was of the highest standard, both Chefs and FoH staff received a standard ovation from all diners. We will be returning."

Why We Love This Hotel

  • You'll stay in an individually designed room in the Victorian Gothic mansion itself.
  • Henry’s restaurant serves contemporary British and Mediterranean cuisine, and is named after King Henry VIII, who awarded the estate to Robert Burgoyne.
  • "There's a romantic charm to the Wroxall Abbey Estate," says The Daily Telegraph, which also praises the "impressive patterned tile floors, stained glass, enormous sweeping staircases, carved wood panelling, and traditional fireplaces".
  • The 27 acres of serene grounds include formal gardens, the ruins of 12th-century Wroxall Priory, and the Grade I-listed Wren's Cathedral — originally the priory chapel.
  • History buffs will be in their element: Kenilworth Castle and Warwick Castle are both less than 15 minutes' drive from the property, while Baddesley Clinton and Packwood House — both National Trust-owned stately homes — are 10 minutes' drive away.
  • Stratford-upon-Avon is around 20 minutes' drive away. Like Stratford, Wroxall Abbey has a Shakesperian connection — the Bard's great aunt, Isabella, was prioress in the 1500s.

The only thing to add is we would recommend this to all, whether for a stay on en route or a break away. Additionally, we’re we planning to marry could not think of a better and more suitable location. We both highly recommend 5 out 5 for everything particularly value for money.

The room and the actual building are fine with the entrance to the grounds and the initial sight of the building being superb that’s where it stopped though

The staff are untrained, breakfast was chaotic with most of the menu not available, management needs to give immediate attention to training, very unprofessional

The hotel itself was lovely but let down by the staff and customer service… Firstly on check in , we were told the lift doors are playing up so it may not shut. I thought it safer to use the two flights of stairs . The room itself was small but clean, nicely decorated. Evening meal, one of the mains we chose wasn’t available and one of the three desserts too, off the menu. The wine we chose they didn’t have so they brought us an alternative at a £4 additional charge. I asked for more sauce with my pork and it arrived ages later, tasting different. All purchases had to be paid for at the time of ordering and all had a “ discretionary” service charge automatically added, with no option to include it or not… which is rubbish considering we waited 20 minutes for someone to serve us some drinks and then after our evening meal , around 9.15 they turned the lights off in one lounge room, and the manager type man , didn’t seem too happy when we went in another lounge. Breakfast was a joke. It seemed like they had just roped in a few family members to help out who had no clue. One guy doing it all himself, took order, then came back with two black coffees to ask if they were ours. Then arrived with one breakfast. It eventually arrived and was ok, however we asked for another coffee to have with our breakfast and it never arrived… Although clean and tidy, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel

Dinner was delightful, the food at least. The service was reminiscent of a restaurant on its first day. Staff didn't know what drinks were available, which menu customers should have. The food was prompt and well presented, and delicious. The room was spacious and well presented, on first glance. Closer inspection found damp staining to the walls and later dripping water was coming through the smoke detector. By 10pm the hot water had stopped working in the hotel. This was still the case in the morning. Breakfast was much improved service, completely different staff.

The property suggests a much grander experience than that which was provided. Massive potential not yet being realised by the current owners

Overall it was a good experience, friendly staff, nice rooms and the bar food was good. A little understaffed and there was little atmosphere because there were few people staying. However it was well worth a visit even more so in the summer and when the spa opens.

Do not listen to the negative reviews on Tripadvisor and try it for yourselves, it can only get better as time progresses
