Why We Love This Hotel
- The property is surrounded by 30 acres of private garden and woods. The ruins of the 13th-century Dolbadarn Castle lie within the grounds. The castle was built by Llywelyn the Great using local slate.
- Food at the hotel is "homely and tasty". Take in views of the lake from the Padarn Restaurant. Eryri Bar & Lounge serves pub favourites and has a "lively atmosphere" (The Daily Telegraph).
- Llanberis is a short stroll from the hotel. The trailhead of the circular walk around Lake Padarn is five minutes' drive away.

Bedroom and bathroom were a little small but manageable for a short stay. The room location was a bit far from the central area and on the third floor which meant two different lifts or several flights of stairs. It was quiet though being away from the hubbub. Breakfast excellent and staff very pleasant indeed. Extremely good value for money and the weather was quite kind too.

Room very nice, if a bit far from reception. Had a bath and shower. Water piping hot. Weather awful and didn't even leave the hotel on Saturday as it was so wet outside. Room comfy to sit it. We were on the third floor and it was a bit of a maze getting to the room. Just about remembered the way as we were leaving. Breakfast plentiful and tasty. All staff we spoke with were very professional and helpful. There was some sort of conference on the whole weekend with a lot of people but we weren't bothered by any noise or inconvenience. Good free car park. Convenient for the village.

Dined in the restaurant both evenings of our two day break the food and wine we had were very
good . Thank you chef and Ryan who served us. Breakfast could have been better, but the older lady who was clearing the tables was very efficient and helpful. We had a lovely view of the hills and weather was kind to us ,so managed two walks. Llanberis is quiet at this time of year, which suited us perfectly.

The bed was really hard and uncomfortable for my wife however staff did try to help and got an extra quilt to fold and lie on which made it more comfortable. The shower did not get hot but they did send maintenance man to try and sort the problem making it more acceptable . They were quick to sort issues when asked .

Hotel location is superb just at the base of Mount Snowden, only a few steps to the Mountain Railway station. Our stay was on the third floor so it was kind of tricky as the first lift went to the 2nd floor and then we had to walk and get another lift to go to the third. But I guess it has had upgrades over the time in an old building. Breakfast with a view if you get in early and manage to get those few tables with view. I thought rooms were rather small but clean. However, walls need soundproofing of some sort as you can almost clearly hear from next room. Free parking is helpful!

Very good especially for the price. Breakfast was hot and plentiful with a good choice of hot and cold food. Gluten free food provided too. The bar food was a bit limited but perfectly adequate. The room was very comfortable with excellent hot water in the bathroom and was very clean and spacious .

Fantastic experience, the hotel is very clean. They are making improvements, but it didn’t spoil our stay.
The only negative comment I gave, is that the drinks are very expensive. Pint of Guinness and a glass of red wine cost over £14. Bar food is quite steep too. £19 for burger and chips.

Enjoyed our 2 night stay here. The hotel is in an excellent location for exploring and those who like outdoor activities and there are plenty of walks and attractions nearby. The hotel is undergoing renovations to the rooms, but this did not affect us. The room was warm, clean and comfy. The breakfast was good and the staff friendly. All in all we were happy with our visit and would stay again.

We were spending two nights here on a travelzoo deal. All the staff we dealt with were very friendly and helpful. Our room was on the second floor which was undergoing refurbishment at present but we didn't find this a problem. It wasn't disruptive in any way. The room was quite small but adequate. We ate in the bar on the first evening, which had a good varied choice probably a little more expensive than we usually pay but excellent quality. The second evening we ate in the restaurant. The food was delicious and beautifully prepared. We sat in the lounge afterwards, which was a little chilly, where we were entertained by a young man on his guitar. He had a lovely voice and sang a varied selection of songs. We couldn't fault the hotel and had a wonderful time, enjoying varied walking in the immediate area. If another deal came up, we wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Great location. Friendly staff. Excellent food. The hotel is undergoing some upgrades, so there were some areas in the corridors that looked a little tired.
I struggled with the automatic light and extractor fan in the bathroom during the night. It's a lot of light when you're half asleep, although I appreciate this is a way to mitigate lights being left on unnecessarily. It's mentioned more as something to be aware of when booking.

The hotel is in a great location with walks from the door and many other attractions in walking distance or readily accessible by public transport. Our room was quite small and the bathroom a little cramped, but it had everything we needed, including a very comfortable bed and a lovely woodland view. Breakfast was good, with vegetarian and vegan options cooked to order. There was also a selection of gluten free cereals and bread on the buffet. Staff were helpful and friendly. There is a drying room for wet weather gear - rains a lot in Snowdonia. Unbelievably good value.

Well situated for visiting places of interest in the area. Also a short stroll to the lake, and Snowdon Railway. Parking on site, easy check in/check out.
Evening meals were very good, and can recommend either the bar meals or restaurant.

The hotel is a little tired, but rooms are adequate and they appeared to be having work done within the hotel.
The only downside was the breakfast. If you wanted fruit with yoghurt there wasn't a choice, also the porridge was a do it yourself from a pot but was very sweet and was unable to eat it. The cooked breakfast was served to you which is better than self service, but as it's still just on hot plates was the usual lukewarm rather than hot.
Other than the breakfast, it was a good choice to stay and would certainly revisit if available again.

The deal we got with Travelzoo made this excellent value for money. A clean and tidy hotel with some interesting features but generally catering for coach trips. Breakfast was basic, but the lovely view form the conservatory made it a better experience. We ate a couple times in the bar and the food was reasonably priced and standard bar fare. On our last night we ended up in a lounge where there was bingo and a quiz for the coach party. They were happy for us to join in and we won the quiz and a couple bingo prizes! Small but comfortable room, although the bed was a little bit hard. There was a bath and the usual kit, including hairdryer, iron, TV and tea and coffee making facilities but nothing fancy. I would stay here again for a walking trip if there was an offer.

We were given an inside room with a window to an internal small open yard. The window was painted stuck and no force would open it. We spent the night with a noisy fan to give us some air. Next morning we asked for a different room and were given a better one with a window which opened. Otherwise, the hotel stay was OK.

The hotel is conveniently situated. The room was adequate, another chair would be useful. Standards of cleanliness were good. Meals in the restaurant were good (although if a dish is to be changed, this should be explained to customers when they order). Most of the staff were very good (lovely lady on breakfast service) but 1 or 2 just did their job! Drying room really useful, as it rained heavily for most of our stay. Breakfast was good, except for the fruit juice!!

Warm welcome, friendly helpful staff. Room was warm and clean with comfy Super King bed. Some rooms were in the process of being refurbished and new carpets being laid in the corridors but this didn’t really affect our stay. Well stocked bar and the chargrilled chicken we had was very good. Drinks and food a little pricey although paid similar in London a few days earlier. All in all a comfortable stay and well located for what we had planned.

The room was fairly basic and the bathroom minute, but still good value for the offer price that we paid. I'd hope for a better room if we were paying full price. Food in the evening was really good and the service too. Not a fan of a self service breakfast personally, but there was plenty of choice and nothing ran out.

Th room was comfortable and clean. There was a good selection of tea coffee, iron and board and a large Tv. Breakfast had plenty of choice, was hot and nicely cooked.
We had drinks in the bar, the Gin and Tonic was served with barely any ice and no garnish. When paying premium prices they should know how to serve drinks correctly. We dined in the restaurant, the starter was lovely, fresh and homemade. The main course was terrible. We had Lamb Hotpot which was a sloppy mess, barely any filling and copious amounts of gravy that tasted of cheap gravy powder. The accompanying green beans were not fresh, they had used frozen.
The bedroom and breakfast were very good but I would not eat in the restaurant again.

Having stayed here before for a weekend we found the room was a really spacious warm n clean room. However it was on the third floor and as we prefer to use stairs it was a bit of a nuisance walking up and along numerous corridors. We emailed hotel to ask for a similar room this stay but possibly on the ground floor. However we turned up last Friday evening and when we entered our room which was on the first floor the first thing we noticed it was freezing as no heating had been put on. Second thing was the room was half the size of the previous room we had stayed in. And thirdly the bathroom was so small. The previous bathroom was spacious with a bath and shower overhead. This bathroom was so tiny the sink was hardly what I would call a sink more the size of a small toilet sink that you put under a staircase. There was just a small shower and the toilet was placed in a small space. I was very disappointed especially given my expectations from staying the first time was totally the opposite this time. As we were just staying the 2 nights and had unfortunately arrived later in the evening I didn’t want to make a fuss. Thankfully being able to spend time in the lovely Llanberis area and a visit to Bets y coed made up for the disappointment of our visit to the hotel this time. Because of this I’m not sure I would book or recommend this hotel.

Right in the heart of Llanberis so convenient for the Mountain Railway and the Slate Museum. Car parking is expensive in the area but if staying here the free hotel car park negates the need to park elsewhere.

We enjoyed our visit. Just a couple of problems when we arrived as there was a power cut so no heating but the problem was fixed quickly. Also no restaurant but the bar food was excellent.

My sister and I really enjoyed our stay. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Our room was absolutely fine with nice comfy beds. Breakfast was excellent and the food we had in the bar on our first night was very good indeed. Wine was on the pricey side (£9 per glass, £26 for a fairly average bottle of Chardonnay), but considering the deal we got on the accommodation, we were happy to pay up. Great location for exploring, and we loved our little train ride around the lakeside. We would happily return.

The only thing we thought the hotel was missing, was a comfortable lounge/bar. The bar is very much designed for eating, with dining tables and straight backed chairs. We like to relax in the evening over a couple of bottles of wine, in comfy lounge chairs/settees, but there was no comfortable seating at all. We ended up taking our drinks up to our bedroom and sitting on the beds. We would have preferred to be downstairs, enjoying the hotel. A small point maybe, but it's the first hotel we have ever stayed in that doesn't have some comfortable seating for guests.

Fish and chips 1st night frozen chips and fish overcooked.
2nd night meat feast pizza arrived burnt was replaced and although looked OK on top however was burnt black on one side underneath was then told chef said its because there stone baked I pointed out wife's was OK and shown him both half's underneath one burnt one not he offered me a 3rd which I turned down and was offered a refund.
The prices being charged are way over the top for poor quality food .

My husband and I loved this hotel, its quirky, rambling interior, outstanding staff & excellent location, it succeeded in achieving a relaxed, casual but highly professional atmosphere. Reception staff represented a great team and were always very happy to help & advise. Whilst Michael's staff at breakfast were always under some pressure assisting to our catering needs, they were nevertheless prepared to pause & take time to suggest places of interest & best routes for magnificent walks in the glorious vicinity. And walk we did. To return to the warmth of the dining room at the end of the day & be greeted by the tantalising delights of the restaurant menu was unexpected. Jake's starters were a masterclass in exotic taste, colour & design, a simple croquette transformed into a sensational creation with beetroot & sorrel, the miso broth with green onion, superb. Meanwhile, Majec's (aptly known as 'Magic') mains were comfort food at it's very best! My butternut squash risotto with Burrata was simply exquisite, so much so that I was compelled to order it again the following evening. My husband had never enjoyed lamb with such flavour & succulence. If only we could have stayed long enough to work our way through the menu! We didn't feel we needed a desert until we revisited the menu but to have missed out on the intensely dark & irresistible Medjool date & sesame dessert would have been a travesty. How could that be topped...only by the perfection of the Baked Alaska the following evening. This represented total perfection in terms of artistry and flavour. Very well done gentlemen, aided by your fine dining room staff you are achieving something great! We will most certainly come again..however long it takes us to drive across the country to arrive. The Royal Victoria; one amazing hotel, exceptional staff and electrifying cuisine!

Would have been nice if the Padarn restaurant was open. It was only open on the Friday and Saturday night, but the hotel was busy so thought it would be worth while opening each evening.

2 nights for 130 pounds was a bargain. Location great. Breakfast was included and very good. Downsides were the hallways stank and it smelt like a nursing home. Very old carpets need replacing. The food is extremely overpriced. 19 pounds for burger and chips. Very average burger and very few fries. Even the portobello mushroom burger was 19 pounds. We were left hungry. Surely a decent amount of bigger chunky chips and some salad could be added to bulk it out. Also they can't make Irish coffees as the powers that be have decided only a coffee machine can be used. Even the bar staff are unhappy with this. With the grand name of the hotel you would expect to be able to finish the night with an Irish coffee. Rooms clean and plenty of hot water. New modern over bath showers.

Booked a bargain 2-night stay with Choices of Breakfast options. Travelling from Preston, set off early so we went to few sightseeing locations on a dry & reasonable late January day before checking-IN at the Royal Victoria Hotel (by then bit windy &wet). Next day Friday, 26th, dry but cold. We explored local Slate Museum (free) lots to see with 20-minutes short History film show, then half hour demonstration on slate floe direction for strong usage - splitting - chopping - cutting - making holes in slates without breaking or damaging. Spent total of 2-hours looking around used machinery, various tools of the trade & workshops. Bonus was seeing the giant water wheel still turning via belt/gear shaft - must be 30 feet in diameter? By noon travelled to Snowdonia National Park and took the Miners Trail to Hike & climb one of the mountains and the SUN was shining all around top for wonderful photo opportunities & selfies. We felt truly bless for such an excellent occasion. BRILLENT :))

Bit of confusion between meel at restaurant and bar (different menus). Great location with amazing views. Hotel has its atmosphere and plenty of history with it. Absolutely loved it.

We had stayed at the Royal Victoria many years ago and it had felt in need of some tlc then. It looks like it's had some and it's ongoing. Our room was on the small size but had everything we needed ( a few extra coat hangers wouldn't go amiss). Modern plugs with USB connections, a nice warm carpet and a radiator thar warmed the room nicely. The floors creak a lot but I suspect that's just because the building is on the older side. Some carpets around the lift area downstairs are well worn but others look fresh and new. Considering the hotel must get a lot of traffic from walkers to the area its not suprising. The bathroom is modern and clean with a good shower. Tea and coffee was replenished daily . The breakfast was typical hotel fayre but good enough to set you up for a few hours. I'd definitely go again if I could pick up another good deal. Pleasantly surprised.

Ideally located for exploring Snowdon and the surrounding area which has much to offer. Free on site parking is available, and the hotel itself is large but friendly, with clean and comfortable rooms surrounded by well maintained gardens. Complimentary breakfast is also a good reason to stay here.

Ideal location for Mount Snowdon as it sits just at the bottom. Easy access for walking up or using the train a couple of minutes walk from the hotel.

Terrible weather but plenty to do with correct clothing. Hotel very well placed so easy to come back and get dry and warm.

Hotel is very clean and rooms are quite big. Food and drinks were lovely although a bit on the expensive side. Breakfast really good value for money as had everything hot food , cereal, yoghurts fruit. Very central hotel to the waterfall and the slate museum and also the lake and walking paths. All in all a great hotel and in a central location. . Had a lovely weekend here . Would definitely return.

Very basic room, wind howling through window frame ,evening meal chicken that tasted of seafood ? When questioned waiter he took meal to kitchen then told me I was wrong

Real nice room, need to be cleaned better cobweds hang from ceiling. Amazing hotel overall breakfast was great, well presented.
Only thing to spoil our time was 1 room playing very loud music through the night on first night but 2nd seem like hotel staff had sloved issuse which was great for the sleep.

Great place to stay. Very welcoming from entering to leaving. Very close to shops and bars. Great views.

Location of the hotel is perfect. Very close to the Snowdon path and Llanberis village. The hotel is very tired though. Our room was at the front of the old part of the hotel and bathed in light all night long from the light in the carpark and through from door from the hallway. The room was clean though so no complaints there. The cooked breakfast was fine. Staff were friendly. Overall, three stars is about right.
