Why We Love This Hotel

  • The property is surrounded by 30 acres of private garden and woods. The ruins of the 13th-century Dolbadarn Castle lie within the grounds. The castle was built by Llywelyn the Great using local slate.
  • Food at the hotel is "homely and tasty". Take in views of the lake from the Padarn Restaurant. Eryri Bar & Lounge serves pub favourites and has a "lively atmosphere" (The Daily Telegraph).
  • Llanberis is a short stroll from the hotel. The trailhead of the circular walk around Lake Padarn is five minutes' drive away.
  • The Anglesey National Landscape and Betws-y-Coed village are 30 minutes' drive away.
  • Portmeirion is an Italian-style village that was the backdrop for the 1960s' cult classic series, The Prisoner. It is 50 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Lovel place, 5 min walk to the easy path up the Mountain (snowden) also 5 min walk to the waterfall that was very impressive. Right next to the mountain railway and very close to the town, lake and lake railway. All in all outstanding location.

We checked in with a friendly member of staff. A bit of faff getting to our room 2 lifts and long corridors. Our room was of a good size, nice & clean and airy. The usual tea making facility was in place. Some areas of the hotel are tired, however there seems to be a renovating plan in operation. The gardens are beautiful. Breakfast was very good with many choices and as much as you could eat.
Other Comments
Ideal situation for the train station which was opposite to take you to summit of Mount Snowdon. Also easy to get to Caernafon and Bangor. Well placed hotel.

Large hotel but not over busy. Staff friendly and helpful. Didn't realise restaurant not open on Sundays and Mondays at this time of year but the bar food was very acceptable. Room in the annexe was pleasant and a reasonable size.
Other Comments
In the height of the season it may be rather crowded. The annexe windows do not open very wide so it did get rather hot (but unseasonably warm anyway). Energy saving arrangement meant en-suite bathroom lights went on when you entered. This was a bit of a nuisance when using the loo during night time.

The hotel has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere and the staff were friendly and polite. The room was clean and comfortable with no issues at all. The food at both the breakfast buffet and restaurant was delicious and plentiful. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will book another stay in the future.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Our room was very good with a comfy bed, a lovely view from our window. The shower was very powerful and we enjoyed a nice soak in the bath after our climb up Snowdon. The food was good in the bar, we didn't go to the restaurant, the breakfast was good too and lots of choice, the porridge being particularly tasty! The staff were also very friendly and helpful. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel and especially for its beautiful location.
Other Comments
The only thing that was disappointing was that there was no nice decaf coffee at breakfast. I'm allergic to caffeine! Also at the entrance to the hotel there was no ramp in which to transport suitcases. However, we had an altogether fantastic stay!
