Why We Love This Hotel

  • The Bells Hotel and Country Club has an 18-hole golf course — a 50% discount on green fees is included in this offer — a gym, a bar, and a restaurant
  • A medieval hunting forest that later supplied timber for Tudor warships and iron ore for the Industrial Revolution, the Forest of Dean remains a landscape of woodland roamed by wild boar
  • Puzzlewood, an atmospheric 14-acre site of moss-covered rock formations (called scowles) and gnarled old oaks that inspired JRR Tolkien's Middle Earth and has featured as a filming location in "Doctor Who" and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", is a 5-minute drive away
  • You can explore the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on foot, by bike, or in a canoe; mountain bikes and e-bikes are available to hire from Wye Bikes in the grounds of the hotel
  • Symonds Yat Rock is 10 minutes away by car or 20 minutes by bike — a limestone outcrop that towers over the river below, it provides impressive views of the Wye Valley
  • Monmouth and Goodrich castles are both less than 20 minutes' drive from the property, while the ruins of 800-year-old Tintern Abbey, which have been celebrated in poetry by William Wordsworth and on canvas by JMW Turner, are around 20 minutes' drive away

Very friendly welcoming staff, excellent food Shame that the room was not so welcoming, drab and much in need of a refurb But overall just what we needed for a break in one of our favourite areas

The staff were really pleasant and the dining room was lovely but our room was quite shabby although clean. For the price we paid we couldn’t complain though and had a really nice break overall.

Good deal. Nice club house. Close to small town with a couple of bars and cafes. Near beautiful walks. Rooms were a little dated. Limited choice on menu for set dinner but very tasty.
