"Spent a very relaxing couple of days at the Guildford Manor hotel, the spa facilities are good, we particularly loved the vitality pool. The hotel was quiet and the rooms comfortable."

Why We Love This Hotel

  • The 4-star Guildford Manor Hotel & Spa is located in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
  • Enjoy access to the hotel's spa and health club*. Facilities include an indoor swimming pool, a sauna, a citrus steam room, a gym, an indoor Jacuzzi, and outdoor heated vitality pool.
  • The Newlands Corner Restaurant serves a seasonal menu that features locally sourced ingredients (where possible, within a few miles of the hotel), such as Norbury blue cheese, watercress from Kingfisher Farm, gravalax cured with Silent Pool gin, and Surrey steak.
  • Newlands Corner is a 10-minute stroll from the hotel and commands some of the best views of the Surrey Hills. Famously, it was the spot from which crime novelist Agatha Christie staged her disappearance in 1926, and there are several walks that explore the surrounding woodlands.
  • The spring-fed Silent Pool is a 30-minute walk (or 5-minute drive) from the hotel. Next to this is the Silent Pool Distillery, which specialises in hand-crafted gin, and Albury Organic Vineyard, which produces high-quality English wines. Tastings and tours are available.
  • The town of Guildford is home to a Medieval castle, a cobbled high street lined with boutiques, cafés, and restaurants, and a local museum, and is less than 20 minutes' drive from the hotel.

*Spa access is from the time of check-in (3pm) and until checkout (11am). Robe hire costs £7 and require a £18 deposit, returnable upon checkout. For environmental reasons, the hotel does not provide spa slippers, but guests may bring their own. The Spa offers a range of massage and Elemis beauty treatments, which can be arranged in a couples treatment room. These must be booked in advance—call 01483 222624.

The hotel does not have a lift but will do its best to accommodate individual requirements and offers ground floor rooms (subject to availability). Enquire directly.

The hotel recommends booking in for all meal times in advance. If you have any dietary requirements (e.g. vegetarian, vegan, gluten free), contact the hotel's reception team at least 24 hours prior to arrival.

We had a lovely afternoon stay here. Check in was easy. Our room was clean and tidy . We had one bedside light that wasn’t working and we went to reception to report it. Sadly despite this , the light wasn’t fixed during our stay. The spa facilities were lovely and we loved the outside pool. Only downside was the fact that both times we went to pool , there were no towels and nobody on the reception to help us. So we had to go to main reception to get towels. Dinner was excellent and breakfast was ok. Restaurant staff very friendly. Would be nice for the room to have a welcome booklet to let you know Wi-Fi details etc , but we went to reception and asked about this. All in all it was a lovely stay. A few little negatives but we enjoyed ourselves. Would be good to have a notice about the opening times for vitality pool. After having a lovely evening enjoying it , we wanted to go back in when the pool was open the next day , but it was shut until 9:30.

The only issue was that you had to pay to hire the tubes when you booked a spa treatment

Nice grounds, excellent shower.

Not advised that the heating was not working and a fan heater would be available in room. Unfortunately, although advised there would be a private function we did not appreciate our room would be right over the function room and we would feel the music beat through the floor and hear it until after midnight. Breakfast times not explain properly as poor communication by receptionist. Evening meal quite nice but one of our orders was wrong. Very apologetic restaurant manager.

We had a lovely relaxing time, the outside pool/jacuzzi was amazing lovely and warm even though it was February. The staff were all friendly and polite. The food was delicious and very well presented. The only thing we found a bit disappointing was the room. It is a bit dated, the bathroom was clean and modern but the actual bedroom could use an update. Also the towels are looking very used and washed out. On the whole though we enjoyed our stay.

It was easy to book and we had a warm welcome on arrival. The setting is amazing amongst the surrey hillside and the outside and inside have many distinctive features. We encountered a few maintenance issues. The room was lovely, with the exception that the two lights outside were not working and this made it difficult to open and close the door; two lights in the room also did not work, the bath did not have a shower mat to prevent slipping. This could prove quite tricky for some people when existing the shower bath! All the above were reported! The spa was lovely, except, the sauna was not hot and the jacuzzi cold, so 50% of the facilities we could not use.
Other Comments
The service and food in the restaurant was excellent, on the evening there appeared to be only one waiter. We would certainly return and non of the above maintenance issues burst our bubble.

Evening meal was very nice but cold in the restaurant and and had to have heaters plugged in near the table.

Should have been a king size bed but it was a double, waited 15 minutes for someone to arrive at desk to check us in. No towels in bathroom and when I requested them they were full and washed out. Public spaces were dirty. Breakfast was uninspiring and basic, coffee machine wasn’t working. Lunch consisting of two sandwiches, a coffee and glass of wine came to over £30 All in all very disappointing

Beautiful front aspect with plants and modern updated architecture; room was small, but comfortable and quiet, except the second night when the conversation next door was too loud; bathroom fittings were all modern, but with limited space between washbasin and shower entrance; I enjoyed using the well-equipped gym and indoor swimming pool; our dinner was good, and buffet breakfasts were tasty and comprehensive, especially fresh fruit salad; and all the staff were friendly, professional and helpful.
