Overview

Wroxton House Hotel is a 4-star property where "old meets new ... with stunning contemporary design" (The AA). The hotel -- which is in the Oxfordshire village of Wroxton -- is made up of several honey-thatched cottages, parts of which date back to the 17th century, and a contemporary wing.

The historic market town of Banbury is a 10-minute drive from the hotel and Oxford is around an hour's drive away. Bicester Village -- a large shopping outlet with over 160 stores -- is around 30 minutes' drive from the property.

Upton House and Gardens, a 17th-century National Trust property, is less than 10 minutes' drive from the hotel, while the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Blenheim Palace is less than 40 minutes' drive away.

The 2-AA-Rosette Restaurant 1649 -- the original building dates back to that year -- features oak beams, an inglenook fireplace and a "peaceful atmosphere for dining" (The AA).

Bedrooms are "comfortable and well equipped" (The AA) and are split between the original cottages and the modern wing. Wi-Fi is free.

The staff were excellent, polite and helpful, and nothing was too much trouble. We had upgraded to an executive room which was one of the best hotel rooms we had ever stayed in. Our visit had to be cut short because of the extended regulations around coronavirus, but we can't wait to return. When we do we will ask for that same room!

Nice little hotel for exploring the local area. Staff were very friendly and helpful, although a little disorganised. Room was very spacious and well appointed. Only downsides were our room was directly above the bar so was very noisy. Shower water pressure/temperature was a bit hit and miss!

My husband and I had an enjoyable stay, however not quite as relaxing as we were hoping for. We were there on a 2 night stay and both mornings and 6.35 and 7.35 respectively the fire alarm sounded. Upon checking out we mentioned this to the receptionist, and although apologies were made, she did go on to say that it seems to be a regular occurrence as the fire alarms are extremely sensitive, even someone spraying deodorant sets it off!! The room and bed was cosy and comfortable, but unfortunately the walls are paper thin, and we could hear everything from the room next door, kettles boiling, toilets flushing, baths running, you name it....we heard it!!!
Other Comments
There was some confusion in the kitchen the night we had dinner in the hotel, my husband ended up getting a dish he didn't even order, again the head waitress was very apologetic, and the situation was rectified.
