The Hotel Pont Royal has long been a stand-out hotel on Paris's Left Bank. Overlooking the chic Rue de Bac, known for its select shops and patisseries, it's just around the corner from the d'Orsay Museum, the Louvre and Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris' famous literary district.
Notre Dame Cathedral, the Jardin du Luxembourg and the Eiffel Tower are all within 30 minutes' walk and it’s 10 minutes on foot from Parisian shopping favourite, Le Bon Marché. There are also six metro stations close at hand for access to the rest of the city.
L'Atelier, the 2-Michelin-star restaurant, is run by renowned chef Joël Robuchon and specializes in "superbly executed" small plates (Michelin Guide). You can also order degustation plates via room service. The panelled bar is no less star studded, having played host to literary giants F. Scott Fitzgerald, Henry Miller and Ernest Hemingway. Settle back in one of the leather armchairs with a signature cocktail.
If you fancy dining out, Spanish-style bistro, Semilla, is a 10-minute walk -- Fodor's calls it "the toast of the town" for its laid-back but sophisticated meals and just across the way is its sister restaurant, the extremely popular Fish La Boissonnerie.
Rooms are modern in décor yet cozy and comfortable -- some with views of St Thomas d’Aquin church. Pricier rooms are sizeable -- the best with Sacré Coeur and Eiffel Tower views. The top-floor Panoramic Suite is the most indulgent by far, with two rooftop terraces and its own private entrance.
