Overview

Best Western Plus Samlesbury Hotel is in the village of Samlesbury, with some of Lancashire's "most attractive landscapes" (Lonely Planet) surrounding it.

The Ribble Valley, which is around 10 minutes' drive away and named in September, 2016 as one of 15 best places to raise a family in the UK by The Daily Telegraph, has plenty of rambling opportunities. The Ribble Valley Food Trail, for a chance to sample local food and drink, starts 25 minutes' drive away in Clitheroe. Alternatively, Lord of the Rings fans can revel in the Tolkien Trail -- a 5.5-mile circular walking route through countryside that inspired several locations in JRR Tolkien's novel The Lord of the Rings. It starts at Hurst Green, around 20 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Pendle Hill in the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is around 35 minutes' drive away. It's famous for its connection with the Pendle witches and is a great spot for panoramic views of the rolling Lancashire hills.

Although Samlesbury is small, there are things to explore on your doorstep. Samlesbury Hall, a medieval stately home with farm animals, art exhibitions and grounds that The AA describes as "beautiful" and "delightful", is less than five minutes' drive from the hotel. The city of Preston is around 10 minutes' drive away.

The Merchants Restaurant uses ingredients sourced from within a 30-mile radius. The Merchants Bar serves drinks and afternoon tea -- a champagne afternoon tea for two is £19.

Ideal location for visiting family nearby and Chipping Steam Fair. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice and continually replenished. Meals bothi in the restaurant and bar were very good.

Very nice room, with excellent shower and nice toiletries. Reasonably quiet, despite coach parties and two weddings! Good location, with easy access to many interesting places (and other restaurants!). Aside from difficulties in restaurant (not the norm according to other reviews) staff were generally obliging and helpful.
Other Comments
Service at dinner on our first night was appalling, though the manager did apologise profusely when we complained and we weren't charged. Staff had clearly not been trained/organised properly as far too much attention was paid to serving a coach party, to the detriment of other guests. Service at breakfast on Sunday was also not acceptable and excuses about everyone turning up at the same time simply didn't hold water - again, staff should be trained to deal with a situation like this! We were eventually told that two members of staff hadn't turned up, though it would have been helpful to have had this communicated to us earlier!
