The Deal

TOP 20 - Sells out quickly!

Escape to The Whitewater Hotel & Leisure Club, a converted Victorian cotton mill in the village of Backbarrow, by the surging River Leven. Two-night stays are now £169 -- half the usual price, and include:

  • Accommodation in a Standard Room, with daily full Cumbrian breakfast, for two
  • A 2-course dinner on the first night only (worth £26 per person)

Why We Love It

  • The hotel is a converted cotton mill with river views
  • Leisure facilities include an Elemis spa, a heated swimming pool, a sauna and a Jacuzzi. There are also tennis and squash courts
  • Bowness-on-Windermere Pier, for Lake Windermere boat trips, is less than 20 minutes' drive away. Coniston Water is around 30 minutes' drive
  • Whitbarrow Nature Reserve, known for its idyllic landscape of limestone crags with a woodland backdrop, is around 20 minutes' drive from the hotel

Located beside the River Leven, The Whitewater Hotel & Leisure Club is surrounded by mountain fells and picturesque river villages. You'll be less than five minutes' drive from the southern shores of Lake Windermere, England's largest lake.

Lakeland Motor Museum is a few minutes' walk from the hotel, and Lakeland Miniature Village is 15 minutes' drive away. Bowness-on-Windermere Pier, for Lake Windermere boat trips, is less than 20 minutes' drive. We recommend the cruise from Bowness to Ambleside -- the village is around 20 minutes' walk from Ambleside Pier, and from there you can follow the signs to see the 70-foot-high waterfall Stock Ghyll Force.

Lakeside & Haverthwaite line -- a preserved steam-train railway running through picturesque countryside -- is 15 minutes' walk from the hotel, while Whitbarrow Nature Reserve and Coniston Water are both less than 30 minutes' drive. A popular destination for hiking and walking, the Old Man of Coniston -- a fell that's over 2000 feet high -- is a 50-minute drive away.

The hotel's Cascades Health Spa & Fitness Club has a heated indoor pool, a Turkish hammam, an Arabian mud temple, a sauna, a Jacuzzi, a gym and tennis and squash courts.

The Riverside Restaurant offers a fine-dining menu, while The Dolly Blue Bar & Grill -- named after the pigment formerly created within the mill -- offers casual dining.

The room we were given was the worse Hotel room ever was like a dungeon, went back to reception told no other rooms available but could move us the following day, after speaking with my Wife I went back to reception asking to see the Manager, minutes later a knock on our door we were told Manager not available but they had found another room. Why did we have to go though all this trouble which spoilt our special birthday break. We have stayed at the Whitewater 4 times before and requested rooms which we had used before this was ignored. This could have been our LAST visit.

The food was very good as was the pool.

The waiting on staff were pleasant and ready to help but they needed more training and close management. Our meal in Dolly Blue was particularly disappointing; almost 1 and 3/4 hours in a cold and barren room spoilt our stay.
