With its Georgian buildings, winding streets and Roman baths, Bath is "the grandest and most elegant" city in England, according to Condé Nast Traveller. It can also be on the expensive side, but the 4-star Bailbrook Lodge is a reasonably priced option less than 10 minutes' drive from the city centre.

It has 15 bedrooms, five of which are Four Poster bedrooms, with views of the property's pretty gardens and the Avon Valley beyond. Rooms are individually designed with DVD players, iPod docking stations, cotton slippers and tea- and coffee-making facilities as standard in all rooms, and Wi-Fi is free throughout. There is no lift, so ask for a ground-floor room if anyone in your party has mobility requirements.

Cooked breakfast is made to order, and there is also a choice of pastries, cereal and fruit. Snacks, including afternoon tea, are served in the lounge throughout the day and there's a small bar. There is no on-site restaurant serving lunch or dinner but there are plenty of restaurants 10 minutes' drive away in central Bath, including Brasserie Brunel at sister property the Royal Hotel Bath. There are other dining options including riverside pubs within 10 minutes’ walk of the hotel.

The hotel has plenty of free off-street parking, but finding parking in the city can be tricky. There is a bus stop a 5-minute walk from the property with a regular service into the city centre.

The only reason for a neutral scoring for the rooms is due to the size of the twin bedded room, which was quite small

The building and surroundings and close proximity to Bath City centre.

Regretably the hot water for bath/shower was not available at peak periods. Informed reception who compensated with a bottle of champagne but would rather have hot water on tap.

Everything at the Bailbrook Lodge was first class, what wasnt was the fact that travelzoo hadn't told them about us going. When we arrived they were not expecting us and I had no room booked, fortunately they found us a room so we could stay. Secondly I had received e mails from travelzoo Confirming the booking and had thought we had payed, we had not and had to pay whilst at the hotel. Not 100 percent happy with travelzoo and currently wouldn't be happy to recommend them.
