Itinerary recommendations
Tailor Made Rail provides a suggested itinerary. You'll receive all your train tickets, hotel bookings, and detailed schedules, then you're free to explore at leisure.
- Day one... travel from your local station to London St Pancras, where you'll take a late-morning Eurostar to Paris. You could grab lunch near the station before taking the afternoon service into Germany. Spend the night at a hotel in Karlsruhe, on the River Rhine.
- Day two... catch the once-daily EuroCity service to Milan at 9am. This is a long but direct train journey, and it affords stunning views of the Alps. In Milan, hop on a local train south to Rapallo, and arrive in time for an evening pizza.
- Days three to six... you'll have five nights to relax in Rapallo, your base on the Ligurian Coast. The Cinque Terre villages are around 35 minutes away by direct train. As a result, Rapallo feels a little more authentic, and you can really live like a local. The hotel is right on the promenade, a few steps from the historic centre. A cable car leads to a Baroque sanctuary with spectacular views across to Portofino.
- Daytrip options... Rapallo is one of the most well-connected towns on the Italian Riviera. This deal includes a Cinque Terre Express day ticket. This direct train services all five clifftop villages that make up the Cinque Terre: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore.
- Day seven... embark on your penultimate day of travel. You'll start the journey home along the French Riviera. Slip past Menton, Monte Carlo, and Nice on the way to glamorous Cannes. Toast your arrival with sunset aperitifs before settling in for an overnight hotel stay.
- Day eight... you'll be whisked to Paris the next morning on a 200-mile-per-hour TGV. Enjoy lunch, then catch a late-afternoon Eurostar to London. Onward tickets to your local train station are included.
