Itinerary highlights
- Day one… a door-to-door airport transfer will get to you to your hotel in Pompeii. Take a stroll around the main square flanked by a cathedral, and a number of restaurants.
- Day two… stroll down UNESCO-protected Roman roads at the Pompeii Archaeological Park; entry ticket included. Lonely Planet calls it "Europe's most compelling archaeological site". See millennia-old villas with frescoes, temples, and amphitheatres. This remarkably well-preserved complex provides captivating insight into life of an ancient society.
- Day three… no holiday to Southern Italy would be complete without seeing the postcard-perfect Amalfi Coast. A full-day excursion covered in your package will include transportation and lunch. There will be photo stops to capture the dramatic beauty of steep slopes dropping into the Mediterranean Sea. You can wander around the charming historic centre of Sorrento, visit the pastel-coloured coastal gem of Positano, and you can relax on a pretty piazza in Amalfi.
- Day four… you can choose to spend the day at your own leisure exploring the area. Alternatively, join an optional tour (fee applies) of the mighty Mount Vesuvius volcano. You’d pass by vineyards and farms working the fertile land on the way to the national park. You could hire an expert leader to trek with you to the crater. The 30-minute climb would reward you with breathtaking views over the Bay of Naples.
- Day five… as part of your package, you'll also get a return train ticket to Naples. This city of high-octane energy is the original home of pizza. It is just over 35 minutes' journey from Pompeii. We suggest a stroll along the shops in Via Toledo to the Spanish Quarter, a labyrinth of narrow alleys with colourful murals. From here, you could continue to the Royal Palace in Piazza del Plebiscito. Some other sights worth to visit are the Monastery of Santa Chiara, Naples Cathedral, and the authentic local restaurants on Spaccanapoli street.
- Day six... you'll be transferred to Naples Airport to catch your flight back home in the UK.
