Hotel details
Hotel Reale is a family-run property on a quiet street just off the main piazza of Montecatini Terme in Tuscany. Many of the town's grand Art Nouveau spas are still in use, including the huge Terme Tettuccio thermal complex. 300 metres above Montecatini Terme, you'll find the older hilltop village of Montecatini Alto, which can be reached by a vintage funicular train. You'll get free tickets to ride up for a wine-tasting session with amazing views.

Montecatini Terme also makes a great base for exploring further afield—from the rail station, which is around 10 minutes' walk from the hotel, you can reach Lucca, Florence, and Pisa for a few euros. Lucca is under 30 minutes away, and is one of Tuscany's best-preserved Renaissance cities. Wandering its Medieval ramparts feels "just like stepping into an illuminated manuscript", says Lonely Planet.

Other options
