Hotel details
Hotel Reale is a traditional, family-run property on a quiet street in Montecatini Terme. It is off the main piazza in the more modern part of town. Facilities include a restaurant and an on-site swimming pool.
300 metres above Montecatini Terme, you'll find the older hilltop village of Montecatini Alto. You'll get free tickets to ride up on the funicular train for a wine-tasting session. We recommend visiting the grand Terme Tettuccio Art Nouveau spa complex from May–October. Spa entry costs around €6 (£5).
Montecatini Terme also makes a great base for exploring further afield. You can reach Lucca, Florence, and Pisa on the train for a few euros. Lucca, under 30 minutes away, is one of Tuscany's best-preserved Renaissance cities. Wandering its Medieval ramparts feels "just like stepping into an illuminated manuscript", says Lonely Planet.
