Hotel Romoli is a modern property near Caffarella Park, which contains an ancient spring, a working farm and a wooded hilltop that overlooks the mountains surrounding Rome. It is around 10 minutes' walk from Furio Camillo Metro station, from where you can reach Rome's historic centre in under 10 minutes.
Travelzoo tip: After a day exploring the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Trevi Fountain, cosy upfor the evening in Rome's longest-running Jazz Club, Big Mama. Tucked away in a quiet Trastevere alley, it is generally full of locals and hosts a great selection of jazz and blues bands.
Hotel Diva is in Florence's Novoli district from which you can reach the city centre in around 15 minutes. Florence is "a city made for walking", says Lonely Planet, and is "packed with extraordinary art and architecture masterpieces at every turn" -- while you're there, be sure to hike to Piazzale Michelangelo to see one of the most stunning sunsets in Italy.
Hotel Smart Holiday is a 4-star hotel in Mestre, around a 30-minute tram ride from the island of Venice. It has a restaurant, a bar and a terrace, and the tram stop for Venice is at the top of the road. We recommend calling in at Libreria Acqua Alta, one of the most beautiful bookshops in the world -- you'll find piles of books kept in bathtubs and gondolas, as well as a few resident cats sleeping among the stacks.
Hotel Berlino is a 15-20 minute bus ride from Milan's main sights and 5 minutes' walk from Corso Sempione, a tree-lined avenue with restaurants, bars and shops. Milan is a "city of the future", says to Lonely Planet, where everything fizzes with "ideas, ambition and energy" -- drop by its Design Museum to see some of the most inspired pieces of Italian art, architecture and design.
