XO Hotel is a 4-star property in Paris's 17th arrondissement, an upmarket area in the northwest of the city with plenty of bars, restaurants and beautiful Haussmannian architecture.
The property is a 15-minute walk from the Arc de Triomphe. You can climb its 234 steps to the 50-metre-high observation deck for some of the best views of the city (fees apply), then take a stroll along the Champs-Elysées -- a mile-long avenue of theatres, cafés and luxury shops that leads to the Place de la Concorde, the capital's largest square.
The hotel is less than five minutes' walk from the Place du Maréchal Juin, where you can catch the RER train from Pereire-Levallois station to the Eiffel Tower in around 25 minutes or take the bus from Pereire-Le Chatelier to the Louvre in 20 minutes (open Wednesday-Monday; admission fees apply).
The Moulin Rouge is 35 minutes' walk (or 20 minutes by Métro) from the hotel. Described by Lonely Planet as "the number one show in Paris, if not the whole of Europe", this world-famous cabaret sells out quickly, so it's best to book early.
The hotel has its own wine cellar and offers tastings (fees apply), and outside there is a patio with a small garden.
Wi-Fi is free.
Travelzoo tip: The Batignolles area of the 17th arrondissement is one of the city's fastest-growing foodie centres. To sample the best of it, head to Rue Brochant -- "this could be renamed the Batignolles food street," says The Guardian, "as both sides of the road are lined with restaurants symbolising the new image of the quartier."
