Your journey will begin with an overnight stay in the Nepalese capital Kathmandu, from where you'll catch a flight to Bhutan for a 6-night tour of the country. The tour will start in Thimphu, via a scenic drive with views of the Paro Valley. Lonely Planet calls Bhutan's capital "one of the world's most intriguing destinations", due to the juxtaposition of its traditional Buddhist way of life and an increasing commercial presence.
Next, you'll travel to Punakha. En route, you'll visit the 15th-century Chimi Lhakhang temple, which is accessible only by walking through paddy fields. During your stay in the city, you'll visit the Punakha Dzong, one of the country's most impressive buildings thanks to its size and intricate gilded interior.
You'll then head to the town of Paro. Here, you'll visit the National Museum, the Kyichu Lhakhang temple, started in the 7th century, and the Rinpung Dzong fortress. You'll also head out of the city and hike 2-3 hours to visit the Paro Taktsang (Tiger's Nest Monastery), which is perched high on a cliff edge.
Finally, you'll fly back to Kathmandu for two more nights, giving you time to see the capital at your own pace. You can explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu shrine at Pashupatinath and Boudhanath, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world.
There is a tourism tax of between £155-£195 per person, per day, to visit Bhutan -- this is included in the deal price.
