The holiday begins with a week by the beach in Langkawi. The 5-star Berjaya Langkawi Resort is in Burau Bay -- Fodor's praises the resort's "peaceful and secluded" location, surrounded by the "crystal clear waters of the Andaman Sea, with the green mountains of the rain forest providing a lush backdrop".
Facilities include four restaurants, four bars, a swimming pool and a gym. For an additional fee, you can book treatments at the spa. The resort provides a shuttle service into the town centre, and around the resort itself.
You will then fly to Kuala Lumpur, where you will spend two nights at the Verdant Hill Hotel. The hotel is in Bukit Bintang, the city's shopping and entertainment district. It's 10 minutes by taxi from the Petronas Twin Towers and Chinatown, and 20 minutes' walk from KL Tower, the world's 7th-tallest tower.
Next, you'll fly to Sandakan in Borneo -- the largest island in the Malay Archipelago, and one of only two places in the world where orangutans can be found in the wild. You'll stay at the Four Points by Sheraton on the waterfront -- The Daily Telegraph praises it as "undoubtedly the city's finest hotel", and says "this property combines delicious food and stylish interiors with a prime ocean-view location".
