You'll spend the first four nights at Hotel Providencia, a deluxe property in one of Santiago's most cosmopolitan barrios. Known for its "European ambience", says US News, Providencia attracts "foodies looking for a memorable meal" -- small kitchens and upscale restaurants line the streets, and there's even a food truck serving traditional crudo, a delicacy similar to steak tartare.
While you're in Santiago, you'll tour the coastal cities of Viña del Mar -- which translates as "vineyard by the sea" -- and Valparaiso. "Poets, painters and would-be philosophers have long been drawn to Chile's most unusual city", says Lonely Planet, and it is praised for having some of the best street art in Latin America.
Next, you'll head to Mendoza, one of the great wine capitals of the world and the gateway to the Argentina Wine Route. "Mendoza’s spectacular Andean scenery is heady enough, and that's before you even start on the wine," says The Guardian. You'll journey into the surrounding plains and foothills to sample world-class wines at some of the area's most renowned vineyards -- including Maipú or Luján de Cuyo, both famed for their Malbec.
Finally, you'll spend two nights in Buenos Aires, where you'll stay at the 4-star Kenton Palace. The hotel is right next to the city's antiques and crafts market, which is held every Sunday, and there are a number of jazz clubs, restaurants and galleries within five to 10 minutes' walk.
