The trip starts in Lima with a 2-night stay at the Hotel José Antonio, close to the Pacific Ocean. When we visited the capital we loved eating at the cevicherias, where you'll find the freshest seafood cooked in zesty lime juice. The hotel is in the Miraflores district, where you'll find many bars to enjoy a drink while watching the sun set over the Pacific.
Next, take an internal flight to Juliaca and head to Lake Titicaca in the Andes, on the border of Peru and Bolivia. This is the aforementioned highest navigable lake in the world and the largest lake in South America. Here, you'll visit Taquile Island and the floating Uros Islands, where you'll find traditional crafts and clothing (and incredible views).
You'll then travel to Cusco -- "the undisputed archaeological capital of the Americas" (Lonely Planet) -- for a one-night stopover, before taking the train to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu. The Inca City is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the ruins -- set between two forest-clad Andean peaks -- are a must-visit sight on a trip to Peru. You'll visit as part of this package.
The holiday finishes with three extra nights in Cusco. It's an ideal launchpad for visiting many spots in the Sacred Valley, and is particularly atmospheric at night, when its historic plazas are lit up.
A discount of up to 25% applies for children aged 2-11.
