The tour will start with a visit to Lake Como -- you'll stop in Tremezzo, which has "pretty wisteria-draped views across the lake" (Lonely Planet). While in the area, you'll stop off at a local wine cellar to taste the best of the region.
The following day, you'll head to Turin and get a 2-hour guided tour of the city, including a vermouth tasting. Next up will be Langhe and Monferrato, for tastings of full-bodied barolo wines and local food.
You'll then move into white-wine territory along the Liguria coast and Rapallo, with tastings of sweet sciacchetrà dessert wine. Florence will be your next stop, and you'll get a 3-hour guided tour of city, which is a Renaissance masterpiece in itself.
On the sixth full day of the tour, you'll head to the Chianti Valley, where you'll have lunch at a local farmhouse, before tasting chiantis and sparkling red lambruscos. The next day will start with something a little different -- a tasting of balsamic vinegars from the Modena area with lunch, before trying out some valpolicella red wines.
The final tasting will be an exciting one -- you'll try Italy's lesser-known but highly regarded franicacorta, a champagne-like sparkling wine. You'll spend your final night in Milan before your flight back to the UK, stopping off en route at Lake Iseo, "a magnificent sight… shut in by soaring mountains" (Lonely Planet).
Solo travellers can book the tour from £1100.
