After making your own way to Nairobi airport, you will be transferred to Kenya Comfort Hotel to meet your tour guide and group.
The first stop of the tour is the 702 square-mile Masai Mara National Park -- one of the "world's finest wildlife sanctuaries" (Fodor's). After an overnight stay in a campsite that borders the park, you will set off on your first game drive early in the morning. The Masai Mara plays host to over a million animals, and if you're visiting between July and November you may be lucky enough to witness the annual migration -- in which about 1.5 million animals travel between the Masai Mara and Serengeti, crossing the Mara River, in search of food and water.
The next day, you'll depart for Lake Nakuru National Park, where you'll take another game drive, with the chance of spotting rhinoceros, buffalo and giraffes. The park is also known for its large flock of flamingos. You'll then drive past local tea plantations to Kisii, where you will camp overnight before crossing the border into Tanzania, where you'll spend a night on the shores of Lake Victoria -- Africa's largest lake.
Next, you'll drive to the mighty Serengeti, where the African plains sprawl as far as the eye can see, Acacia trees punctuate the landscape, and the Big Five -- lions, leopards, rhinoceros, elephants and buffalo -- roam in abundance. You will do a game drive in the afternoon to your campsite, which is in the middle of the park. You'll dine in the wilderness and listening to nocturnal wildlife sounds -- if you're lucky you might hear a lion's roar.
The next morning you will take another game drive through the Serengeti, and in the afternoon will begin the drive up to the rim of the UNESCO-listed Ngorongoro Crater. Formed from a collapsed volcano, it is now a 18 kilometre-wide basin teeming with wildlife, and has the highest density of lions in Africa. After camping overnight in a campsite that has been known to feature zebras eating grass close to the tents, you will head off for a morning game drive in the crater.
The next day you will return to Nairobi for your flight home.
