Itinerary highlights
- Bangkok... visit some of Thailand's most iconic temples. See the country's largest solid-gold Buddha (weighing over five tons) at Wat Traimit. Next, discover the legendary reclining Buddha statue of Wat Pho, the city's largest temple. Then visit the vibrant Maeklong Railway Market and experience a floating market.
- Angkor (from Siem Reap)… is known as "the heart and soul of Cambodia" (Lonely Planet). This 12th-century Khmer Empire temple complex is "a stunning blend of spirituality and symmetry". Your full-day tour covers the most famous temple of all, Angkor Wat. You'll also explore the South Gate and Angkor Thom. You'll then have a day at leisure in Siem Reap.
- Ho Chi Minh City... see the Reunification Palace, where soldiers marked the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. Buy local trinkets at Ben Thanh Market, and see French colonial architecture. In the afternoon, explore the famous Cu Chi tunnels. Vietnamese resistance fighters hid, lived, and made weapons in this extensive network of tunnels.
- Halong Bay... embark on an overnight cruise. Take in the bay's limestone pillars, emerald-green waters, and forested boulders. Indulge in some wild swimming, or go kayaking or fishing. Enjoy a celebratory deck party in the evening.
- Hanoi... take a walking tour of the Ho Chi Minh complex. See the Mausoleum, Ho Chi Minh's final resting place. Then head to the One Pillar Pagoda and the Temple of Literature. Finish the day with a traditional water-puppet show. You'll have your last day at leisure to sample some delicious street food.
