The tour will start in Kochi, a port city that has remaining influences from centuries of global trade and colonial rule -- you'll see giant Chinese fishing nets being used to bring in the morning's catch, Dutch palaces, Portuguese houses and remnants of the British Raj. It's known for its traditional Kathakali dance shows, which you'll see on your second evening.
Next you'll head to Munnar, a lush green landscape of tea plantations, dotted with small towns. You'll visit the tea museum to learn about the history of the industry and the area.
After two nights you'll then travel south to Thekkady -- your first day includes a tour of a spice plantation, and on your second day you'll rise early for a guided walk through the evergreen forests and marshlands of the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. In the afternoon you'll take a boat ride on the sanctuary's lake, which is frequented by wild elephants.
Next, you'll have a night aboard a traditional houseboat to discover Alleppey's charming backwaters, a chain of lagoons and lakes connected by canals and rivers. Locally called a kettuvallam and held together entirely by coconut ropes, the boats give a real insight into Keralan life.
Finally you'll head to Kovalam, a resort located on a crescent golden-sand beach fringed with palm trees. Your stay here is unguided, with two full days at leisure before flying back to the UK.
