About the show
Split into three parts, the story traverses before, during, and after World War I. In pre-war France, Englishman Stephen Wraysford embarks on a dangerous love affair with married Isabelle Azaire. The unexpected romance turns their world upside down. But once war breaks out, he must lead his men through the carnage of the trenches. Here we meet happy-go-lucky miner Jack Firebrace, part of the unit digging tunnels in France. The camaraderie between the soldiers grows as they experience the horrors of The Somme together. As his world explodes around him, Stephen clings to the memory of Isabelle and his former life.
James Esler plays the part of the troubled Stephen Wraysford in his stage debut. Alongside him is Charlie Russell ("The Goes Wrong Show") as Isabelle Azaire. Award-winning actor Max Bowden ("Eastenders") also stars as the lovable Jack Firebrace.
