About the show
"Les Misérables" opened at the Barbican Theatre in London on 8 October, 1985, making it the West End's longest-running musical. For decades, people have flocked to see Victor Hugo's classic story come to life on stage. Set in early 19th-century France, it tells the story of the life of Jean Valjean, a man condemned for stealing a loaf of bread, who turns his life around after a bishop shows him great kindness. Despite changing his ways, Valjean is hunted by Javert for breaking his parole. His life on the run leads him into the perils of the June 1832 Rebellion, where a group of Paris students prepare for revolution.
"Les Misérables" features all its best known hits, including "Do You Hear The People Sing", "One Day More", and the iconic "I Dreamed A Dream". The show has been produced in 42 countries and translated into 21 languages, and has been the recipient of numerous Laurence Olivier and Tony Awards. The film version, released in 2012, also won three Academy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and four British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA).
