Itinerary
- Singapore… you'll spend two pre-cruise nights in this high-spirited city state, described as "one of Asia's top destinations" by Lonely Planet, thanks to its "melting pot of cultures”. There’s no shortage of Buddhist temples, Arab bazaars, Victorian hotels, and modern malls to explore.
- Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam… formerly known as Saigon, it is the largest city in the country. Visit bustling markets, admire French colonial architecture, or visit the Cu Chi Tunnels or the Mekong Delta for a day trip.
- Nha Thrang, Vietnam… there are many hip beach bars in this coastal town, renowned for serving-up all kinds of delicious treats. Among the shore excursions available are trips to surrounding villages, bike tours, and scenic river cruises.
- Hong Kong… expect incredible cuisine, limitless shopping, buzzing bars, and cultural diversity fused together in a city "wrapped in mystery" (Fodor’s).
- Kagoshima… located on Japan's southern Satsuma Peninsula. From around late March, it's expected that over 1000 stunning cherry trees are likely to bloom in this city that overlooks an active volcano.
- Osaka… apparently the city's unofficial slogan is kuidaore, which simply means…’eat until you drop'. According to Lonely Plant, the best way to experience this intensely colourful city is, "by chowing down on local cuisine and enjoying a drink at an izakaya (pub restaurant) alongside good-humoured locals".
- Yokohama… with heaps of jazz clubs and microbreweries, a trendy art scene, and easy-going bay location, Yokohama offers a slower pace of life.
- Tokyo… you'll disembark the Diamond Princess here and transfer to the 4-star Keio Plaza Hotel (or similar), set for three nights exploring Tokyo and Mount Fuji. Over the next three days, discover the Japanese capital, and get a full-day excursion to Mount Fuji, where you'll take a boat ride on Lake Ashi, ride the Hakone Ropeway Cable Car and take the high-speed bullet train back to Tokyo, with lunch also included.
This cruise concludes in Tokyo.
Ship details
According to Fodor's, the gleaming Diamond Princess mega-ship boasts the feel of a “small, cosy ship” and offers its guests "a wonderful array of dining, activities, and entertainment choices". You can relax at one of the outdoor pools surrounded by padded loungers, or at the Izumi Japanese bath, the largest of its kind at sea.
There are plenty of dining options onboard to satisfy any cultural cravings, including international cuisine in a casual setting at the Horizon Court, Italian flavours at Prego Pizzeria, burgers at the Trident Grill, or light refreshments at La Patisserie. Sabatini's is a fine dining experience, while Kai Sushi serves freshly prepared sashimi (specialty dining is available for a supplement).
Street performers set the mood in the grand atrium, while the theatre hosts big-production shows in the evenings. There's an adults-only Sanctuary retreat, a plush spa, an open-air cinema, and a cool nightclub with panoramic views 15 decks above the sea. Simply put by Cruise Critic, "the Diamond Princess is a a great, easy way to discover Japan and its culture".
