Itinerary
You'll begin with stays in Lima and Cusco—explore these ancient cities over five nights, and look out for fluffy alpacas. You'll also enjoy a full-day tour of Machu Picchu, the most spectacular Inca site in the world. Then, board Azamara Journey for a 10-night cruise calling at:
- Pisco, Peru... known for its year-round warm climate, this stop is next to the Ballestas Islands, home to a plethora of wildlife such as sealions, blue-footed boobies, and fur seals.
- Arica, Chile... spend some time on the brown-sugar beaches when visiting what is known as the 'city of eternal spring', due to its mild climate.
- Iquique, Chile... "located in a golden crescent of coastline, this city is counted among Chile's premier beach resorts", says Lonely Planet. This stop is renowned among surfers.
- Antofagasta, Chile... take a walk around the harbour to see sealions and Pelicans. This stop is known for its impressive geological features and their contrast—dry deserts, tall cliffs, and blue waters can be found here.
- Coquimbo, Chile... its name means ‘place of calm water’ in the native language. The city is crowned by the Third Millennium Cross, a feat of concrete which sits at the top of the hill.
- San Antonio, Chile... this stop sits in Chile's Maipo Valley, and is known for its wine production and stunning beaches. Stay overnight onboard, giving you ample time to sample its renowned Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as the seafood.
Ship details
Azamara Journey is a boutique luxury cruise ship that carries just 690 passengers at full capacity. Its smaller size means it can call at off-the-beaten-path ports and spend more time in port than other ships.
All meals and drinks are included, and the food onboard is "excellent", says Cruise Critic. There are several dining venues to choose from—including the Discoveries Restaurant, which offers flexible dining with no assigned seating—and the atmosphere is chic, grown-up, yet casual, so you can leave your tux and gown at home if you choose. House spirits, wine, and international beers are included, and tips are pre-paid.
You can attend Azamara's signature White Nights party, where you'll enjoy canapes, drinks, and a live DJ on the pool deck. You'll also get a complimentary AzAmazing Evening, a unique after-hours discovery tour which takes place on shore after sunset.
