Itinerary highlights
- Tokyo... stay for three nights in the upmarket Ginza district. You'll be six minutes' walk from the Shimbashi Station, from where all of Tokyo is easily accessible. Hamarikyū Gardens are 15 minutes' walk away.
- Osaka (overnight in port)... has the cool factor of a metropolis, but at a more manageable size. You'll stay overnight so there's time to visit Kyoto independently. The Imperial capital is just a 30-minute train ride from central Osaka.
- Kochi... this regional capital is small and friendly. Visit the temple and the botanical garden, and try the speciality, seared bonito.
- Hiroshima... has overcome its tragic past, and is now among the most liveable cities in Japan. Learn the history of the atom bomb at the Peace Memorial Park, then live like a local.
- Busan, South Korea... the country's second-largest city, known for its beaches and hiking trails through the mountains. Busan Tower, in Yongdusan Park, offers panoramic views of the city's harbour (admission fee applies).
- Nagasaki... is a beautiful seaside city with stunning bay views. It's a unique cultural melting pot, with a rich Chinese and European heritage. It's also home to Japan's oldest Chinatown.
- Kagoshima... is the southernmost city on the bullet-train network. Its smouldering volcano often draws comparisons to Naples. Discover beautiful inns and onsens in a relaxing ambience.
- Shimizu... is the gateway port for trips to Mount Fuji. The mountain is around 90 minutes' drive away. Make the trip independently, or book an excursion with the cruise line for a supplement.
You'll disembark in Tokyo and transfer to the airport to fly back to the UK.
