Itinerary
First, you'll stay overnight at a well-reviewed hotel just 10 minutes' walk from downtown Vancouver. It's easy to reach the terminal in the morning—around five minutes in a taxi.
The first day is a sea day, so look out for whales and dolphins. Pods of orca are often seen in May and June. Then, call at:
- Juneau... this town really boomed when prospectors struck gold in the 1880s. It's often called the most beautiful state capital in the USA. The town centre is close enough to reach on foot. Explore restaurants, galleries, and museums set against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains.
- Skagway... this historic town has a prime position on the Alaskan frontier. The Yukon Route Railway originally connected it to the goldfields of the Klondike. In the older part of town, 100 buildings remain from the 1800s Gold Rush. There's even a bona fide 125-year-old saloon, now restored as a museum.
- Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier... here, the ship will get up close to spectacular scenery without making port. You'll cruise the 30-mile-long fjord and end up with front-row seats to the brilliant-blue glacier. Endicott Arm offers a glimpse of true wilderness, framed by cascading waterfalls and jagged mountains. Dawes Glacier is famous for daily ice calving—a natural process that creates icebergs. You'll cruise close enough to hear the ice creak.
- Ketchikan...the town's name means "thundering wings of an eagle" in Tlingit. It is known for its indigenous Haida and Tlingit heritage. A river gushes straight through the town centre—salmon fling themselves upstream in peak summer. The Misty Fiords wilderness area is around 40 miles east of town.
Finally, you'll spend a day sailing back to Vancouver, where you'll catch your flight home.
Ship details
2025 departures are on Grand Princess, while 2026 departures are on Emerald Princess. Emerald Princess is slightly bigger, carrying around 3000 passengers, while Grand Princess carries around 2500.
Both ships include the same main restaurants: Michelangelo, Botticelli, and DaVinci. You can enjoy the multi-course menu, which changes daily, or visit more casual venues. The buffet serves a bit of everything; the café serves light bites 24/7; and there's a BBQ-style grill by the pool. Additional à la carte restaurants are available for an extra cost.
Princess Cruises' entertainment falls on the traditional side—expect theatre shows, deck games, and trivia. In the evenings, the ship comes alive with music and dancing. You can also enjoy movies under the stars on the top deck.
