Itinerary

  • Funchal... the capital of Madeira is known for its picturesque centre, colourful gardens, and delightful cafes. The stop was voted the World's Leading Island Destination at the 2023 World Travel Awards. Enjoy a cable car ride and optional guided tour of Monte Palace Tropical Gardens. You'll dock overnight in port here, so there will be plenty of time to explore.
  • Santa Cruz de Tenerife... this island is rich in biodiversity and natural beauty. According to Lonely Planet, it is the "striking grande dame" of the Canaries. Optional excursions include a cable-car ride up to the highest volcano in Spain, Mount Teide.
  • Las Palmas... Gran Canaria is known for its lush mountainous interior and sensational coastlines. Bask on golden beaches in the year-round sunshine. You could learn how to make your own mojo sauce on an optional excursion.
  • Arrecife, Lanzarote... home to beautiful sun-bleached buildings and a Mediterranean-style promenade. Visit the 16th-century Castillo San Gabriel or marvel at contemporary artworks. Join an optional excursion to the fiery mountains of Timanfaya National Park. Here you'll find an otherworldly landscape formed from volcanic eruptions.
  • La Coruña... explore this vibrant, 9th-Century Spanish port town. Sample traditional dishes such as pulpo a la gallega— this is octopus with paprika. You could visit Santiago de Compostela for a mix of Romanesque, Baroque and Gothic buildings.

Ship details
Balmoral is the smallest ship in Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines' fleet. There is a warm and friendly feel onboard. The vessel offers "classic small ship cruising with a fresh new look" (Cruise Critic).

Daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included, and an afternoon tea is served every day. Enjoy finger sandwiches, scones, and cakes. Dine at Fred. Olsen's speciality restaurant, for a supplement, to sample Goan or Asian cuisine.

Choose to relax in one of the lounges during the day. Or, visit The Observatory for panoramic ocean views. At night, you can grab a drink at The Morning Light Pub. Watch big-production shows in the elegant theatre, and enjoy dancing after the evening performance.

Join in on lectures from John Brinkley, a fellow of the Geological society. You'll be able to learn about the geology of the destinations you visit. Stephanie Melodia will also share an insight into island life, as a resident of Lanzarote. Also, join Jonathan Clough from Go Stargazing for a guided stargazing session on-deck.
