Itinerary
Set sail from Southampton and spend time at sea before your first stop—Santander. This elegant city is set between Gijón and Bilbao on Spain's northern coast. You could take a ride on the funicular for stunning views across the bay. There are prehistoric caves nearby, containing some of the most important cave paintings of Quaternary art.
Next, dock in Getxo overnight. This is the gateway to Bilbao, which sits less than 30 minutes' drive inland. Wander through narrow streets of a historic old town, visit charming shops, and walk along the river. Head to the Guggenheim Museum, known as a masterpiece of contemporary architecture. Be sure to sample Rioja wine and local pintxos (the region's tapas) while you're here.
Enjoy a further day at sea before returning to Southampton.
Ship details
Borealis carries 1353 guests at full capacity. Since it's a relatively small ship, you'll enjoy a warm, friendly atmosphere on board. The crew get to know you by name, and even what you like to drink.
Daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included, and afternoon tea is served every day. If you'd like something special, you can dine at Fred. Olsen's two speciality restaurants for a small supplement. Vasco specialises in Goan cuisine, and Colours & Tastes serves Asian fusion dishes.
During the day, you can cosy up in one of the lounges. Visit The Observatory, which has panoramic ocean views and live music. At night, you can watch big-production shows in the elegant theatre, and enjoy dancing afterwards. The Morning Light pub is the best spot to grab drinks with new-found friends.
