Itinerary
Sail from Southampton onboard Iona and call at:
- Santa Cruz, Tenerife... Lonely Planet describes Tenerife as the "striking grande dame" of the Canaries. The bustling capital, Santa Cruz, is a handsome city to keep you busy for the day.
- St. Kitts... this is the gateway to famous white-sand beaches like South Friar's Bay. Explore coral reefs and the national park on the island.
- Bridgetown, Barbados... the capital of this sun- and rum-drenched Caribbean island is your next stop. Bask in the sunshine as you admire colourful buildings around the harbour. Take a dip in turquoise waters lined with palm trees.
- St. George's, Grenada... known as 'Spice Island', the smell of nutmeg and cinnamon encases the rum distilleries here. Relax on the white sands of Grand Anse beach, just outside the pretty capital. This stop is home to chocolatiers ranked among the world's best by National Geographic.
- Castries, St. Lucia... this island "wears its breathtaking beauty with nonchalance", says Lonely Planet. See monkeys and parrots skimming through the canopy on a gentle hike in the forest. Or, admire the dramatic twin peaks of the Pitons mountain and laze on gorgeous beaches.
- St. John's, Antigua... the sheltered bays of this island have provided refuge from Admiral Nelson to buccaneers. It has some of the finest white-sand beaches in the Caribbean. Its hilly terrain is dotted with remnants of a colonial past and mellow, candy-coloured villages.
- Tortola, British Virgin Islands... head to the colourful craft market in the picturesque capital, Road Town. Or admire untamed scenery dotted with green peaks, and white-sand beaches. You could go snorkelling in coral reefs teeming with marine life.
- Philipsburg, St. Maarten... you'll stop at the capital of the Dutch side of the island. It has a buzzing beach walk lined with laid-back bars and restaurants.
- La Coruña, Spain… this port along Galician shores has seafood restaurants and tapas lining its lively streets. You can visit the Tower of Hercules, a lighthouse built by Romans. Take in sweeping views over the surrounding coastline from the nearby sculpture park.
