First, you'll spend two nights in the centre of downtown Vancouver at the luxury Sutton Palace Hotel. You'll stay one block from Robson Street -- known as "Vancouver's Runway" for its array of trendy boutiques and music stores -- and hotel amenities include an indoor swimming pool and a full-service spa.
Next, you'll board MS Volendam for a week-long cruise to the spectacular glaciers and historic gold-rush towns of wild Alaska. You'll stay in an Ocean View Cabin on the ship -- which is praised by Cruise Critic as a "classic, old-school cruise ship" with "incredibly polished service" -- and you'll call at ports including Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Glacier Bay. The classic Inside Passage itinerary is the most popular route for taking in the rugged scenery and spotting wildlife like whales and bears.
Finally, you'll spend another night in Vancouver before transferring to Whistler in the Coast Mountains on the west coast of Canada. You'll stay at a deluxe hotel around five minutes' walk from Whistler Gondola Station, and you'll have two nights to explore the ski resort. Spring is the best time to visit, according to Visit Whistler -- there's still enough snow for skiing, but you can also hike to surrounding waterfalls and fly-fish in the teeming rivers.
