The room and food were quite good but when I settled my account, the food and a bottle of wine cost £133.33 but added to this was £26.67 for VAT, they then added 12.5% for staff on the total of £160 which I had expected beforehand but I have never ever been charged extra for staff gratuities that included VAT on a meal and wine. This was not stated on the menu prices and I feel that have been taken advantage of.
Other Comments
The Powdermills are closing in November for refurbishment and all the staff were informed on the day we arrived. Moral was very low by several members because of their news.

We had a fabulous time at PowderMills Hotel celebrating our 26th wedding anniversary . The food was fabulous, the staff were amazing, attentive and polite. Our room was out of this world! Loved every minute and would highly recommend the hotel to stay in.

Hotel a bit off the track until you get used to the route but excellent food, service and friendly staff, I had read that it was a bit "tired" but it must of had a decorate since those reviews as it looked lovely and spotless clean

The hotel is in a lovely position and the rooms downstairs are all nicely furnished and warm with log fires and comfortable chairs. The downside for us was the room (Room 15) which was hardly spacious as they say the standard rooms are, the beds were very soft and one of the chairs didn’t have a seat cushion! One does wonder if Travelzoo customers always get the worst rooms?! The staff were all delightful and breakfast was good. We didn’t have dinner in the Orangery. The tea and scones and glass of Prosecco which came as part of the deal were very good. We enjoyed our stay despite the room!

Warm welcome and large room. Hotel is closing down the beginning of November for 8 months for a complete upgrade. Will look forward to going back when refurbished.
