The Royal Oak is in a great location in Betws-y-Coed, which is a useful place to explore Snowdonia by public transport. As a lone diner, I found the more casual Y Stablau to provide a comfortable experience than the more formal restaurant. The pub was suitably lively in the early evening. Everything else about the hotel was good, right the way from easy check in to easy check out.

It was very good

No cold water supply to bath and shower. Room too hot despite radiators being turned off. Strong cooking smells and noise from extractors if window was opened. Staff did their best to correct the water problem but it took time to sort out and we had to change our plans for the day. When leaving the assistant manager asked if we had enjoyed our stay. We reminded her of the plumbing issue and asked if the hotel would recognise the inconvenience we had had. She replied that she could do nothing as we had booked through Travelzoo.

Very clean and tidy. Lovely staff, we had a superior room which was a big room and worth the upgrade. It was just an impressive hotel in a great location. Ideal for walking. Breakfasts were filling and very tasty. We had complimentary use of the swimming pool, sauna, steam room and gym at the nearby Waterloo Hotel. That was an added bonus as thay are great facilities.

First class all around great stay

Hotel, staff & location were excellent. However, the food in the dining room was very poor in quality, presentation & very overpriced. Burger was texture was awful & sent back, dipping oil was definitely not a quality oil was like vegetable oil, cheap shop bought hummus & salt & pepper squid was soggy.

Excellent from start to finish, lovely meal in restaurant and super breakfast. Staff were delightful. Location was fabulous and wonderful walks from hotel. Car parking was free and available for the whole day of checkout.

Staff throughout our stay were efficient, helpful and welcoming. We received a complimentary room upgrade which was a treat. The bedroom was beautifully furnished and the newly refurbished bathroom had a simply stunning shower. Our room and bathroom was spotless. The breakfast was varied with every taste catered for.

The staff were friendly, the hotel is spotless and very well decorated. The food was amazing.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. We were a very long way from reception, but thankfully only on the first floor. Once there, the room was very nice and comfortable and breakfast was very good.

We had a lovely two night stay. We did have an issue with our room but Jenny on reception sorted this for us. We felt that all staff were really friendly and welcoming.

It is an old building so don't go expecting modern. Some parts of the bedrooms and bathrooms are dated and worn, however, the dining area and reception was really nicely a cross of modern and comfortable.

I cant recommend this hotel highly enough. Our room was of a very high standard, and the staff were so friendly and helpful. The breakfast was also first class.

the public rooms were very nice but the other parts were a bit dated as was our room except we had a very nice modern walk in shower room.several rooms on our floor (so maybe ours would be next). were being renovated at the same time so it had a bit of a building site feel to it.

the breakfast experience was very nice and overall decent value.however the drinks and evening meal prices were i felt too expensive so we did nt eat there but did have a few drinks in the bar. i did nt really get the impression that it was 4 star.
