A beautiful old house set above Rutland Water with good views of the lake. Extensive grounds are pleasant. We walked a bit around Rutland Water, which was pleasant. The traffic noise was off putting and could have been improved by planting a sound and visual barrier of trees. A spa and restaurant are in separate buildings. Our room and en suite were beautifully decorated and we loved the balcony overlooking the lake but the room was too dark to read in the evening. We weren’t aware of any public space in the old hall to sit in and chat or read.
The service in the restaurant was ok but finishing breakfast at 10am at the weekend and only having dried up food and running out of items (which weren’t replenished) wasn’t good. On a personal note, we only like cooking being on display if there’s a theatrical, performative element to it rather than a kitchen being open to the restaurant. We’d booked a swim session but didn’t use it as it didn’t feel like a spa - more of a good municipal pool and it was full of children so not the peaceful, Zen- like experience we were seeking.
Other Comments
If there are any public spaces to enjoy in the old hall, it would be worth pointing them out to guests.
Improve the lighting in bedrooms - it’s nice to have dim lighting but we also need brighter lighting.

Enjoyed our stay, glad we upgraded the room as we had a large room with a lake view. Only slightly disappointing thing was the bar/restaurant. The barman didn't seem to know what he was doing and didn't seem to want to be there when we visited in the afternoon and our evening meal was bland and flavourless not what we would expect for the prices we paid. The waitress was unable to offer any assistance with wine choices. The breakfast was good though.
Overall a good stay.

Consider doing a bar snack menu. Scotch Eggs, Sausage Rolls or sharing platters. We came back from being out all day and all the bar could offer was crisps and we had 5 hours before dinner!

Lovely hotel with very good restaurant though had to climb some steep steps to get to it. Evening meal was delicious. Breakfast could have benefitted from croissants and warmer food.

We did enjoy our visit, but as is the case with all offers you aren’t going to get one of better rooms. We could have upgraded to a better room and in hindsight perhaps we should have. The room was clean and pleasantly furnished but very dark as it looked out onto a wall, which we had been advised it might.

What a wonderful hotel we had such a comfortable stay and the hotel is so beautifully appointed in beautiful surroundings. Waking up to watch the sun rise over the water was stunning. Thank you to the wonderful staff team who are so cordial and professional. We will definately be returning.

Breakfast great except for rubber fried eggs , lovely restaurant for the breakfast plenty of table settings. Rececption very easy and friendly. 3rd visit was one of the smallest comfort rooms we have had but still fine for our 3day visit.

Parking can be an issue, we always had a space as we are willing to walk to room others seem to not.

Lovely. Room was upgraded when we arrived. Delicious food and friendly staff. Shame everything was in another building and not in the beautiful house but we both had a great time and will definitely visit again.

Booked one night with my grown up son for some walking and stargazing. Worst day/night we could chosen for such activities!
Lovely hotel in a fabulous location. The room was a little small, even for a 'Cosy' room. The premium for a bigger room seems rather disproportionate. The room was clean and warm. Breakfast in the morning was really good.
We'll probably come back when the weather is more helpful, if can get a good deal
