Rooms are nice but no tv and not enough electric outlets. Breakfast buffet everything was cold, lunch was good. Will not eat breakfast there again.

The rooms have outdated furniture, but were clean. Bathroom was remodeled and clean which was nice. Included all toiletries you could need. No A/C on the property, but we knew that going in. No big deal since the mountain air is fresh. Great deal for a one night stay, but wish the deal included pet-friendly rooms because we would have stayed longer if we could have brought and enjoyed the property with our dogs. Otherwise the nostalgia of Dirty Dancing was really fun and we enjoyed hiking around the property, especially in what used to be the lake! Really enjoyed visiting the restaurant with its locally sourced produce and fresh ingredients. The $50 credit was put to good use as the dinner menu was pricey. Looking forward to visiting again when the construction of the new patio and bar is complete!

No big deal since the mountain air is fresh. The grounds could be better kept though, all of the front bushes were overgrown and needed trimming. Also a $75 pet fee per dog is excessive I think. Perhaps offer a deal where that fee is waived for well-behaved and/or short-haired dogs.

Even though there is no longer a lake, it is fascinating to walk in the old lakebed, especially when you remember rowing across that lake years ago! We enjoyed the hiking, and dinner was very good both nights. It was off-season so none of the activities were open, such as the ropes course or clay pigeons. Our large room in the Chestnut Lodge had a nice fireplace (with piles of firewood already cut nearby), as well as a fridge and microwave. Beware, the walls are a bit thin, so sometimes you might hear your neighbor! We had a good rate through Travelzoo but I remember this was a bit pricey when I last booked during high season.

Not aware lake has almost disappeared. Not much of a view from room due to trees, although lake is almost gone. Grounds and room are clean but in a bad state of disrepair. Workmanship of obvious repairs, ie: ceiling, trim, bath tiles was very poor. Furnishings very dated on domestic par with a no-tell motel. A shame because the place has great history and potential. Difficult drive up the mountain to get there and unfortunately not worth the trouble.

It is true that we arrived as friends but left as family. It is the one place in many years where I really did not want to leave. The staff is superb, the cleanliness is first rate & the rooms are drop dead gorgeous. Mike and Katie, our tavern hosts, are personable and super attentive. Whitney, Kayla, and Karlee, in the Harvest dining room are so cute, personable and simply wonderful. The feeling of being in a historic environment is palpable. At the age of 70, well traveled around the world and within the United States, I rate this visit as one of my most elevated experiences.

I am deeply grateful for Katie, Mike, Whitney, Kayla, and Karlee! However I understand that there are many folks behind the scenes who made this visit an extraordinary experience. I can’t leave out the chef, Mike, of 39 years and all the others who maintain the grounds, the buildings and the aura of Mountain Lake Lodge. I am deeply grateful to all!

Lucked out with the most perfect autumn weather. Spent two days hiking in the mountains, enjoying the quiet, scenery, and colors. The room was larger than expected with a big stone fireplace and rocking chairs on the rear balcony to make it rustic while extremely comfortable. The dining room was very friendly and the food excellent, if a bit on the expensive side. We really enjoyed the stay here.

The staff was extremely nice and accommodating. We felt like family. The actual lake has almost disappeared but is slowly refilling but that would only affect summer visitors recreation options. It is truly gorgeous for a fall visit.

The room was very comfortable and the entire property is beautiful. The staff is very friendly. They were very responsive to fill any requests we had. The Harvest Restaurant is beautiful. We only got takeout, but the food was delicious. We opted not to eat in the restaurant because of Covid, but they seemed to do a good job keeping people distanced.

I contacted the hotel prior to purchase to verify their covid procedures and ensure that we would be quite safe and I was comfortable with what had been described. This all went out the window when we arrived. The biggest issue was that our rooms were filthy... there were bugs on everything and the bathroom looked as though it had never been cleaned. Instead of offering another room, the hotel gave us the option of basically leaving or having the cleaning staff come in and re clean the room. As we had just driven 6 hours to get there, we took the cleaning. This was 100% against the covid protocols as described. Furthermore, the cleaning was still subpar. There were discarded contacts in the sink, etc. The place is really dated and not well kept. They are leaning so hard into the Dirty Dancing thing to keep people coming that they have let basic customer service go. We had several other issues during our stay, but this was the most concerning to me.

My husband and I had a wonderful time. You have to enjoy being outdoors and nature to truly benefit from this place. It is on top of a 7 mi hill so just know that if u want to leave and explore. We hike the Cascade Falls and would highly recommend. Also wound recommend visiting Va Tech college town. Please note no air conditioners in rooms. We lucked out as it was cool at night the week we went

We had a lovely relaxing time at the Lodge. We tried Skeet shooting while we were there and had a fabulous instructor ( Mike). I have never shot a gun in my life and Mike gave me instruction, confidence and coaching to make this first experience fantastic.( give it a try). We hung out watching the humming birds on the porch and had some wonderful meals in the lodge restaurant.

Our trip was fantastic, the meal in the Harvest dining hall was very good. Service was a little slow the night we were there, but the food was great. The people were awesome and nice. The rooms in the Chestnut lodge were dated and imperfect, but exactly what you would expect. The room was an interesting mix of old stuff and newer bathrooms etc. I guess the best thing is that we would/will all do it again. We went with 2 other couples.

Lovely in all respects. Cost of hotel stay extremely reasonable. Yet cost of dining service expensive - entrees ordered separately. Sides, etc. all separately charged. Add up quickly.

Thought we could use TZ vouchers before Nov but had to wait (probably didn't read all the 'fine print' at purchase). Room was a bit dated (heating unit was very loud and windows were drafty), but bathroom refurb was very nice. Location is beautiful! Drive up mountain is a bit treacherous, but worth it. Everything at resort is a la carte, so had to watch pocketbook. Dining was limited, largely due to COVID, but satisfied nonetheless. Front desk service was great; food service was adequate (for the cost). The grounds have a wonderful ambiance, probably best in the summer. In all a good value but only by virtue of the TZ deal. It's difficult to recommend to others since every traveler has different expectations. Doubt we'll return, but that's largely due to the 7-hour drive from home.
