The resort is beautiful and the pool amazing. Staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. The location is a bit isolated so you are pretty much forced to have your meals there unless you are up for a long drive. The food was good but ridiculously expensive even for a resort. And 5 days into our stay they debuted new menus with prices 20 to 50 percent higher than the day before. this was an unwelcome event and left us a little unhappy.

I would recommend an all inclusive plan if offered. By the way, the included breakfast was fantastic.

Food and drink were outrageously priced - far more than anywhere I have stayed. And the quality was average. Staff overcharged on drinks and did not correct it even when confronted. Grounds were not well kept - dirty pool area to start the day, not cleaning up after people left - food or towels. All of the complimentary bikes on site were damaged or broken entirely. Overall a pleasant stay, but not without flaws.
The resort made a good impression, though it feels slightly tired in places. We booked an ocean view room, which was spacious and delivered on the promised view. Everything was clean, and the staff was friendly—though at times a bit forgetful, so a gentle reminder might be needed here and there.
The location is quite remote. It's about an hour and a half drive from Liberia Airport, with the last two miles on a very bumpy, unpaved road—which seems unacceptable given the resort’s price point.
Keep in mind that the Guanacaste region is drier than other parts of Costa Rica, with less jungle and wildlife.
Overall, not the best value for the money. At a regular rate of $1,000 per night, you’d expect service and amenities on par with a Four Seasons—but this fell short.

Service was slow at Tamarine, which is where I ate my first meal there. Also the servers at the buffet breakfast that was included were slow and pushy for me to leave. They left the bill ages before I was done with my plate. It’s a beautiful property but you have to practically fight to get anywhere when you’re emailing for menus.

My stay here was perfect. The grounds are beautiful, the staff is attentive, the dinner restaurants were better than I had anticipated, and even during the rainy season in October we only had a sprinkle each day and plenty of sun. Off-season also meant there were plenty of shaded loungers at the pool, seating in restaurants, and never a wait for anything. I was recommending the resort to friends before I left and would love to return in the future.

The JW was beautiful with splendid gardens and a lovely beach for walking and looking at.
The sunsets were glorious and the prices are very reasonable for the high end property
