Why We Love This Hotel

  • A beloved Providence landmark since 1922, the hotel was originally designed by the same firm responsible for NYC's Grand Central Station
  • Rooms here are "massive" ( Starting at 425 square feet, many offer sweeping views of downtown
  • About as centrally located as it gets — the Graduate sits across the street from Providence City Hall

"Location was very central, the only reason I didn't give it a 5 is that it is close to the bus station and I didn't feel comfortable leaving my car parked on the street (and I didn't want to pay $32/night for valet) as there were a lot of transient people around the hotel."

Formerly the grande dame of Providence's hotel scene, the Graduate still boasts gilded-age opulence — think sumptuous carpeting, lofty coffered ceilings and enormous chandeliers in the lobby — but nowadays you can find much trendier accents, too: For instance, eclectically mixed fabrics and textures sit alongside artwork by alumns of the city's many universities in guest rooms.

There are also thoroughly 21st-century amenities like Peloton stationary bikes in the fitness center and loaner noise-canceling headphones. Rooms have large HDTVs and king beds with bespoke leather headboards, plus Malin + Goetz toiletries in the bathrooms. Suites come with separate living room areas and kitchenettes as well.

Poindexter Coffee on site serves pastries, paninis and, you guessed it, coffee — you can also grab a glass of wine or a beer in the evenings. In the area is a huge variety of bars and restaurants, ranging from craft beers and burgers at Trinity Brewhouse to white tablecloth-style service at Pot au Feu Bistro (both within five minutes walking).
