"I've been to Santa Fe often and have noticed El Rey Court, thinking each time how cute the place looks. The Travelzoo offer gave me just the excuse I needed to try it out. The place did not disappoint. The room was nicely decorated, spacious and clean. The property has a pool and an outdoor cafe where I ordered a delicious veggie burger. Happy hour in the main building was lively and fun. I would suggest reserving a room further away from Ceriillos Rd as it was a bit noisy. The only negative experience was in my attempts to upgrade my room. The Travelzoo offer stated upgrades were available for an additional $40. However, the staff claimed to know nothing about it and repeated attempts to take advantage of the upgrade offer fell on dead ears."

Why We Love This Hotel

  • "A next-gen Route 66 motel that's full of character and mezcal" (Conde Nast Traveler)
  • The Vogue-reviewed La Reina bar features an extensive tequila and mezcal selection
  • Lush 5-acre grounds landscaped with bougainvillea, a large pool and fireside hot tub
  • Southwest-chic rooms with exposed beam ceilings and local artwork, some feature kiva fireplaces and kitchenettes

Overview

Set in an adobe-styled building that was built in 1936 on the old Route 66, El Rey Court evokes the feel of old-time New Mexico while incorporating modern amenities such as complimentary Wi-Fi and in-room sound systems. The welcoming lobby, with Southwestern-influenced decor, features a vinyl corner where you can listen to records of country music's biggest artists such as Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson.

Guest rooms feature flat-screen TVs and are adorned with bright colors, ceramic lamps, woven fabrics and original artwork — opt for an upgraded room that includes a kiva fireplace, kitchenette and private patio.

Relax by the seasonal pool — year-round by the fireside hot tub — or visit La Reina ("the queen"), a new mezcal and tequila bar with weekly live music, a place "where fast lives slow down" (The New York Times), that offers a collection of agave-infused cocktails and selection of craft beers, wine, sake and more.

The hotel is only a 10-minute drive away from Santa Fe Plaza with lots of dining options, shopping and such attractions as the New Mexico Museum of Art, the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum or Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay. We loved the 50-60’s decor and the slow paced atmosphere. The only drawback was the bed. My wife could not sleep on it due to the hardness of the mattress.

Excellent. Room was clean, grounds well manicured. The only downside was the road noise, but it didn’t impact our experience enough to not return.

Sure would’ve appreciated a small coffeemaker in the room.

My husband and I traveled to El Rey with our 7 month old, well-behaved dog, and our room and the grounds were lovely.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Complimentary coffee and gourmet tea in the reception area. Nice swimming pool, too! Great location, and a big park was a 5 minute walk away.

Arrived early and were able to check in right away. Lovely grounds, beautifully restored rooms, quiet and peaceful. Only drawback was no coffee setup in rooms. Apparently available on request! Otherwise, thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The hotel bar and lobby are awesome! The grounds have really pretty flowers and greenery as well. The rooms are fine, nothing to get too excited about. The travelzoo price was great, but I’m not 100% sure about their normal rates. The bathroom shower head is very old and doesn’t spray super well and the room overall is pretty old, but overall it’s a really cool motel!

It was so peaceful there and the traditional ambiance was incredible.

I loved the older buildings, the architecture, and the lovely gardens.

Parking was easy. It was extremely clean except for the floor covering. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom amenities were good. We had trouble with the door lock and maintenance was there right away to service it. The pillows did not have cases on them but the maid came quickly to make them up.it is an old fashioned motor court that is appealing to many. The trees and landscape was a nice oasis from busy Cerrillos road.
Other Comments
I felt that we were given a less appealing room in the Alamo court because of the way we booked the room. The room was extremely basic and the floor covering was soiled.
