Overview

The 4-star Bridgewood Manor is a great base from which to explore the nearby countryside, coast, cities and towns. The "gentle hills" and "beautiful coastal stretches dotted with beach towns and villages" (Lonely Planet) of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are five minutes' drive away.

Rochester, a charming town full of historic buildings, is a 10-minute drive away. It has a Norman cathedral and a 12th-century castle keep; we recommend climbing up to the battlements to take in the views of the town and the River Medway.

The historic city of Canterbury, where you can follow a sculpture trail through the parks and gardens or visit the famous cathedral, is around 35 minutes' drive away.

Dover and its castle are 50 minutes' drive away, while the "legendary" (Rough Guides) White Cliffs are a little further.

The hotel has "excellent" (The AA) leisure facilities, including an indoor swimming pool, a sauna, a steam room, treatment rooms and a tennis court. There is also a formal dining restaurant and a bar.

Suggest that the type of music played in the hotel is changed to an easy relaxing genre and played at a much lower volume

Staff very helpful particularly as there was no record of our booking - there was an error and they found a booking for June but with no show next to it. They found us a quiet room ask there was a large party there on the first night. Food was good.

Anna on reception was fabulous from booking to us leaving... She was so lovely helpful and knowledgeable always had a smile when we passed by. Tracy behind the bar and working in the restaurant again was knowledgeable about the area a joy to talk to and made a fabulous warm brandy... Thank you ladies for making our stay a special one. Staff excellent, very friendly and helpful, but service in restaurant for dinner was very slow. Food was excellent quality, particularly breakfast with very large choice. Room comfortable, shower good but towel rail was not operational ? turned off due to warm temperatures but towels still damp for morning shower! Spa facilities good. Ample car parking area. Decor appears rather tired. However we enjoyed our stay but probably would not return but this is due to location rather than hotel.

Helpful and friendly staff. Excellent food in the restaurant. Thoughtful room allocation in placing us in a room well away from a function.

Very nice, hotel is not is a great location and if you weren't eating there, there is nowhere local to eat. The swimming pool area needs a bit of TLC but it is good value for money and only about an hour from Isle of Sheppy,
