Overview

The 4-star Bridgewood Manor is a great base from which to explore the nearby countryside, coast, cities and towns. The "gentle hills" and "beautiful coastal stretches dotted with beach towns and villages" (Lonely Planet) of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are five minutes' drive away.

Rochester, a charming town full of historic buildings, is a 10-minute drive away. It has a Norman cathedral and a 12th-century castle keep; we recommend climbing up to the battlements to take in the views of the town and the River Medway.

The historic city of Canterbury, where you can follow a sculpture trail through the parks and gardens or visit the famous cathedral, is around 35 minutes' drive away.

Dover and its castle are 50 minutes' drive away, while the "legendary" (Rough Guides) White Cliffs are a little further.

The hotel has "excellent" (The AA) leisure facilities, including an indoor swimming pool, a sauna, a steam room, treatment rooms and a tennis court. There is also a formal dining restaurant and a bar.

Dinner service rather slow on a Thursday night but the waitress was very pleasant and apologetic and waived the cost of our drinks.

This hotel is seriously in need of management, and the very attentive and hard working staff in need of support. A few grumbles: 1 table booked for 7 we finally got our main courses at 9 ( we had your teenagers with us you cannot delay food like this.... when it finally came they were to tired to eat. 2 we ordered sharing platters for starters ... fish one was ok .. the bread one consisted of 3 pieces of bread and a bit of oil ... really ... for 10 quid .. the fried vegetable dish also arrived without its chilli sauce 3 the wine we ordered arrived at room temperature .. why would you not keep Sancerre in the fridge. We was offered ice to cool it In our glasses but we didn’t really want to drink watered down wine 4 for desert we ordered the creme brûlée.. what was delivered was done sort of lemon mousse with the caption that this is our version of creme brûlée..!! The sauce was also not as described . 5 breakfast there were no vegetarian sausages 6 spa was very busy we could not book any treatments
