A counterpoint to the sea of skyscrapers that fills most of Midtown Manhattan, the Moderne hotel offers an intimate, small-scale retreat that has style in spades. On the second floor, a 24-hour guest lounge centers around a black marble Saarinen table, flanked by zebra-striped armchairs, tufted metallic silver poufs, and a fireplace.
Hallways are covered over with bright wallpaper prints of picture frames, trompe-l'oeil carpets look like wooden floorboards, and furnishings are either made of metal or metallic finished. Rooms are compact and monochromatic, cleanly finished with white marble tile bathrooms, large abstract art, and beds dressed with Belgian linens.
Heading outside, guests are only about a 15-minute walk to the hubbub of Times Square, and about a five-minutes walk from the peaceful green of Central Park. There's also three museums within a 30-minute walk radius of the hotel.
