Overview

This hotel is an ideal spot for a relaxing retreat a short drive from Kansas City. One of the oldest hotels in Missouri, the Elms Hotel and Spa was built in 1912 near the springs for which the hotel is named. Going even further back in history, the Spa at the Elms has been a sought after destination for rejuvenating treatments since 1888. Guests can spend the day being pampered at the exfoliation bar, relax with a massage, unwind in the grotto or give hydrotherapy a try.

Guest rooms offer a stately, upscale feel with memory foam mattresses, Keurig coffee makers, 42-inch flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. The indoor lap pool, 24-hour fitness center and parking are all complimentary. The on-site restaurant, 88 at the Elms, serves all-day American fare and guests can also stop by the Tavern in the evening for cocktails and small plates.

From the press:
  • "The resort features a full-service day spa with a treatment menu that make it worth the 45-minute drive from downtown Kansas City" -- Fodor's

Service was bad. Front desk wasn't as helpful as I'd expected to be, especially for the price I was paying per night. They kept "forgetting" to send items to my room. Had to call down to the front desk multiple times. Upon checking out the front service agent, tried to overcharge me. Once I corrected him, he then tried to charge me for a breakfast meal, after I told him I had a food and beverage credit attached with my room. Overall experience was not great. Wouldn't recommend.

It's a relaxing atmosphere with a nice staff. You are able to walk to the downtown area where there are shops and restaurants.

Their reservation system needs updating and they should be able to generate an email confirmation when you book online but you have to call them and request one instead.

I really enjoyed the hotels architecure and the history. I loved the ambiance and relaxing, soothing music that is played in the lap pool area.

The front desk staff could have been more attentive and informative. We were not greeted as we arrived, we were given the wrong room type. When we returned to the desk to exchange rooms, the front staff looked something up on the computer, then walked behind the shelving unit. In the meantime another couple came in to check in and were standing behind us. After continuing to wait a while they asked if we were being helped. I said "yes". Then after more time passed I told them the situation we had and that I assumed she was working on it, though she never actually said anything when she left us. Finally after talking with the other couple a bit longer, the front desk staff came back stating she had to look something up and then gave us a new key for our new room. It also would have been nice if she would have asked if it were our first visit to the hotel when we first checked in. As first time guests it was a bit of an adventure finding where everything was located. We found our way to the spa, the girls there seemed busy with a lot of papers in front of them. I asked them a few questions but didnt want to keep them. I had assumed when I booked my room the groto was included so I was disappointed about that. We found our way to the outdoor pool and hot tub. I was disappointed the pool wasn't a salt water or heated pool but we absolutely loved the hot tub and the seating area around the firepit! The only thing missing was a nice cold drink and/or smores. One of our group members found the restrooms just inside and fitness room, which also lead us to the lap pool. When we found our way to the lap pool area, the ambionce was amazing!! It had relaxing lighting and sounds. There are plenty of seating areas and the towels were warm, soft and big! The only downside in that area was that the lap pool was colder than the cold tub and the hot tub was not working. It also would have been nice to have information on the restaurant before hand but the hostess was very friendly and informative. We ended up going out for dinner but had breakfast at the restaurant. Everyone was very friendly, and the staff member making the omelettes was awesome! She was very informative and helpful. She made delicious omelets also! Over all it was great experience but a bit pricey for going to a hotel to just enjoy the hot tubs and architecture. The price that was paid should have at least included the groto.
