The Killarney Park Hotel offers a “luxurious” (Fodor’s) stay in the “tourist hub” of Killarney but within easy reach of Killarney National Park’s “quiet, rural splendour” (Frommer’s). Set in landscaped grounds off a bustling tree-lined road, the hotel is housed in a “distinctive yellow-painted four-story building” (Fodor’s) with a classical design, and is located a 15-minute walk from 19th-century St Mary’s Cathedral. The edge of Killarney National Park, with access to numerous walking trails and the “spectacular” (Lonely Planet) Ring of Kerry circuit, is a few minutes’ drive from the hotel. Attractions here include Ross Castle, an imposing 15th-century stronghold, 5 minutes’ drive from the hotel, as well as rugged Torc Waterfall, offering sweeping lake views, and the “ivy-covered 19th-century Elizabethan-style manor”Muckross House, both about a 15-minute drive away.
Killarney Park Hotel’s interiors have a “traditional style”, featuring a “series of small cosy rooms” (Fodor’s) including a refined lounge with plush sofas, a stone fireplace and a grand piano, and an intimate red-toned library with leather and dark wood furnishings. Guests can dine on “classic cuisine with a contemporary twist” in the hotel restaurant where “linen-clad tables overlooking the gardens…decorative plasterwork ceiling and grand piano make a fine setting” (The AA), and enjoy drinks and a bistro-style menu amid the wood-panelled walls of the bar, which opens to a terrace for al fresco dining in the summer. There’s an indoor pool and a fitness room, as well as a steam room and a garden-view hot tub. Spa treatments are available for a fee.
Overlooking the grounds or Killarney town, the guestrooms “come in contemporary or Victorian style” (Fodor’s) and include free Wi-Fi, TVs and mini fridges, as well as sitting areas. Higher tariff rooms add living space, fireplaces and coffee machines, whilst lavish individually designed suites come with entrance halls and separate living rooms, and add distinct touches such as kitchens and dressing rooms. Room service is available 24 hours.
