Why We Love It
- Easy links to the centre of London
- Near London City Airport, The O2 arena & ExCeL events centre
- Rooms come with free Wi-Fi
Given its location near London City Airport, the ExCeL centre and Canary Wharf, DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel London ExCel is understandably popular with business travellers. It does, however, have a lot to offer the savvy leisure traveller, with The O2 arena, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and links to central London nearby.
The property's location by the River Thames makes for some excellent views, especially in the evenings. Prince Regent DLR station is a 5-minute walk away, taking guests to Oxford Street, the theatres of the West End and sights such as the London Eye and St Paul's Cathedral in under 30 minutes.
Make sure you try out the Emirates Air Line -- a cable car that runs from the Emirates Royal Docks over the Thames to The O2 arena and entertainment district. Nearby leafy Greenwich is also worth a visit, with a daily food and craft market, the historic Cutty Sark ship, the Royal Observatory museum and the National Maritime Museum.
Rooms are a good size and clean. Each has free Wi-Fi, a power shower, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. The triple-glazing is excellent and there is no noise from the airport. Upgrade to a Suite for a fully stocked kitchenette with a fridge, a microwave and a hob, and a sofa bed in the separate living room.
Breakfast is a full English buffet in the DoubleTree Restaurant, which also serves lunch and dinner. Think modern British and European-influenced cuisine. After dinner, have a nightcap in the DoubleTree Lounge Bar.
